Aqua-Pure soaks up new Salsnes filter order

Aqua-Pure Ventures Inc. has received a purchase order for a second Salsnes filter from the District of Lillooet, B.C. The second filter will provide redundancy and dewater waste-activated sludge produced at the sewage treatment plant. It will also assist in coping with primary sewage treatment during peak flows.
The decision to purchase the second unit was largely based on results of tests carried out by employees of CH2M HILL and Aqua-Pure. The tests determined that the Salsnes filter is able to remove and dewater solid material from a mixture of waste-activated sludge and untreated sewage. Results indicated a high removal and dewatering efficiency of waste-activated sludge without impacting primary treatment. The produced mixed solids have a high solids content and are easy to handle and transport, which will lead to long-term savings for the District of Lillooet.
Lillooet (332 kilometres north of Vancouver) is replacing its 35-year-old primary sewage treatment plant. This will allow the district to improve the quality of effluent to the Fraser River. Waste water management and treatment for 2,050 residents will improve and the contamination risk in nearby waterways will be reduced. This project allows for growth in both the district and the neighbouring first nations lands. Aqua-Pure replaced the old system with a Salsnes SF-2000 filter, brought on-line successfully in July, 2004. Aqua-Pure is the exclusive North American distributor of Salsnes Technology, a modular, primary waste water treatment process.
Each new installation results in greater acceptance of the Salsnes technology. Aqua-Pure currently has several municipalities considering the Salsnes filter for primary treatment of their waste water.
Testing for the Capital Regional District (city of Victoria and area) will continue until year-end to evaluate the results under varying weather conditions. The company has also been contacted with respect to supplying primary sewage treatment on board a cruise ship. This application could result in opening up an entirely new market segment for the Salsnes filter technology. Aqua-Pure will soon provide a unit for testing in a pulp mill application. If successful, this could lead to further opportunities in this market segment as well.

Aqua-Pure Ventures Inc. partnership, Fountain Quail Water Management LLC (FQWM), of Bridgeport, Tex., a new oil field service company owned 50-50 by Aqua-Pure Ventures and the Elenburg family, is proceeding with the financing of up to six mobile evaporator units.
FQWM was formed for the sale and/or operation of evaporators and crystallizers for recycling oil field produced water in the Barnett shale field in Texas.
A large volume of high-quality freshwater is required for drilling and completion of wells in this field. Large volumes of contaminant waste water, produced as a result of the completion process used, require treatment and/or disposal. Restrictions on waste water disposal require operators to haul produced waste water farther and farther away. These supply and disposal restrictions increase the cost of gas production. The region is semi-arid and freshwater is scarce.
Aqua-Pure's mobile system provides a cost-effective and environmentally beneficial solution by cleaning and recycling the produced water. This reduces the demand for freshwater supply and reduces the need for waste water disposal.
This new oil field service company intends to provide a service to the gas producers in the Barnett shale by taking their produced water, which currently is going to disposal wells, and processing it through mobile Aqua Pure evaporators. These evaporators will be located at the customer's freshwater storage pit next to wells that are scheduled to be completed. The evaporator will recover freshwater from waste water for reuse as frac water. The residual concentrated brine will go to disposal wells. Aqua-Pure anticipates these mobile units could become the industry standard for produced water treatment in the Barnett shale.
These mobile units will cost approximately $2.5-million (U.S.) each and will be built by Aqua-Pure.
FQWM intends to raise a minimum of $5-million to a maximum of $15-million via limited partnerships with accredited investors. The funds will be used to purchase from Aqua-Pure a minimum of two and a maximum of six mobile evaporators. These units will be owned by the limited partners and will be operated by FQWM. Profits will be shared 75 per cent to the investors and 25 per cent to FQWM.
Hallmark Resources Ltd. (a company controlled by Jacob Halldorson, chief executive officer of Aqua-Pure) and Delzon Elenburg, representing the Elenburg family which owns 50 per cent of FQWM, have agreed to finance the first evaporator unit.
The first evaporator is scheduled for delivery in December, 2004. The second unit is scheduled for delivery in March, 2005, with one additional unit delivered every month thereafter.
The mobile evaporators will be used by FQWM to establish its service business and are expected to have a service life of 20 years.

Aqua-Pure Ventures Inc. has received a purchase order for the first mobile oil field water treatment system.
Aqua-Pure is in the process of completing the detailed design of a 60 GPM, mobile, mechanical, vapour-recompression-evaporator system for the treatment of oil-field-produced water. The bulk of the major equipment (consisting of approximately 30 per cent of the total capital cost) was ordered last week. The construction of this first unit will be completed by December, after which it will be shipped to the Barnett Shale area of northeast Texas for start-up. Aqua-Pure's local partner in Texas, Fountain Quail Water Management, anticipates the requirement for six more units in the near future.
