Title: Olode Environmental Salvage Project
Location:
Categories: Human Rights
Environment

Status:
Timeline: January 14 08 to April 28 08

Description:
The Project will focus on improvement in the environmental conditions using re-orientation, education and light labour-intensive work. Activities and practical exercises to be carried out include house-to-house campaign on the need for a clean and sustained environment and improvement and maintenance of personal and communal hygiene, instant burning of refuse before rainfall, rearing of domestic animals in separate make-shift buildings made of bamboo, mud and palm fronds, daily cleaning of farmhouses and collection of faeces for fertilization of farm crops, burying faeces in pits and holes instead of indiscriminate disposal in nearby bushes, planting a new tree in replacement of every single tree felled.

Background:
I reside within the University College Hospital when I am in school but back home I live in a semi-urban area where developmental activities are just taking place.

Objectives:
The beneficiaries from the project will mainly be the rural villagers numbering between 150-200. The male villagers are mainly farmers and the females are mainly palm oil processors and traders. They are fairly distributed between both genders and are of diverse age ranges; old & aged, adults, youths and children. The children are going to be the best beneficiaries because the improvement of personal and communal hygiene will reduce the spread of diseases, thereby reducing child mortality and the children also grow up with this positive attitude to hygiene and the environment.

Milestones:
1)Attitudinal and Behavioual Change Towards the Environment and Hygiene
2)Improvement and Maintenance of Healthy Environmental Conditions
3)Improved and Sustained Level of Personal Hygiene
4)The Curb of The Menace of Deforestation in Rural Areas

Budget:
Total: 609.375
The funds to be sent should be sufficient for the running of the project. If a situation where funds become insufficient, I may need to use personal funds to conclude the project. Moreover, the project is easily sustainable as it does not require much funds for the maintenance and sustenance of the project outcomes. The most important goal to be achieved is the attitudinal and behavioral change of the villagers towards their personal and communal hygiene and their environment. This is sufficient to sustain the outcomes of the project for a very long period of time coupled with consistent check-ups and visits. It does not cost much money to maintain a clean environment or maintain a good level of personal hygiene. The project will affect the attitude of the people and that will sustain the project.

Needs:
The project will be addressing the need for a sustained natural environment. The project will focus on the improvement and maintenance of good environmental conditions. There will be focus on the improvement and maintenance of personal and communal hygiene as this is very important in the control of the spread of diseases in rural areas. The control of deforestation is also a major need the project will target.
