Description:
I will be the project manager and director for the Silk Road Dance showcase, based on the previous dances I directed on Asian Spring 2007 concert, I will direct several new pieces of dances originated from the Silk Road, including ethnic dance, Dunhuang dance, Indian dance and Arabic dance. Also as the event-coordinator, I will form a team, which will organize some other non-for-profit events such as Silk Road Dance Workshop, Silk Road Arts Exhibits during the Silk Road Dance project.
Background:
I have lived in Binghamton,New York for 2 years where I went to Binghamton University.I love Binghamton and Southern Tier area because it is a beautiful and peaceful old town with improving social, economic and environmental health.
Objectives:
Performers and back-stage staff for dance showcase are basically students from Binghamton University and local schools. By joining the free dance training and participating the concert, they will gain a unique experience of silk road dance and learn more about Asian cultural. Children and adults artist from local communities can also be benefited by joining the workshop and arts exhibit. Finally, the whole project will bring the local community an appreciation of Eastern cultural and hopefully most of the audience will understand better and love the Silk Road Dance

Budget:
Total: 1000
If I got this fund successfully, I will be able to continue the regular training of the dance troupe. Since this project will need more than $1000 due to the cost of stage rental, costumes, promotions, I will work further on fund raising. I have to spend the money very carefully because of the tight budget, the money will be used to supply the basic needs of food and transportation for performers during the showcase, the rest of it will be used for stage scene design and part of our costumes.
Needs:
Through there are many Asian residents and restaurants in southern tier community, few Asian focused cultural showcase has been organized. China and other Asian countries on the Silk Road is the treasure house for eastern history, culture and arts. Silk Road Dance project will give local communities an educational entertainment through our showcase and a series of workshops and art exhibits.
