Title: The Foundation Project
Location:
Categories: Human Rights Education Child & Youth Rights
Status:
In Progress
Timeline:
Ongoing
Description:
We aim to publicise the MDGs to young people in the UK through the creative arts.
Currently, we are looking at devising a piece of theatre and an education pack to go in to schools and community groups to inform people of the MDGs.
We would then link to concentrate on specific goals with our core group, alongside our continued educational work.
Hopefully, this may culminate in an event next year to coincide with 'Peace One Day'.
Background:
As one of the outcomes of the World Youth Congress, The Foundation Project was created in order to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), by educating and encouraging young people to work actively towards achieving these goals.
Although significant worldwide progress has been made, especially at the recent G8 Gleneagles summit, it has been five years since the original targets were set, yet the majority of Britons have limited knowledge of what world leaders are trying to achieve and how they can help. For this reason, The Foundation Project has been formed. We want to encourage everyone to act now in order to ensure that these basic human rights are universally established in a decade.
Objectives:
Long term Goals:
•To provide every school child in Lancashire with an information pack about the MDGs.
•To have strong links with other national and international organisations.
•To change the perceptions of people as to what they can do to help the world.
•To use the arts in a way that encourages and informs.
•To ensure that politicians do all they can to achieve the goals and remind them of their obligation.
•To form projects in the UK that work actively towards the MDGs.
Budget:
We are currently looking at applying for funding.
Needs:
Support!
We have a space to rehearse and support for the application of funding.. we just need people to be interested.
We're trying to form a core group at the moment, which shouldn't take too long - then we'll be all set!
