Following is a slight paraphrase (for the sake of correcting minor English grammar mistakes) of an update from David Chanyeghea, the Chairman of Tanga Youth Development Association, "We have a plan in mind to construct another library at Mbelei, which is the centre of the Mamba ward, and the library will be used by the whole community. Many people now understand the importance of a library and they are coming to kwekitui to read books. Even students from other schools and youth who are not in school are coming to use the Kwekitui library."

It's hard to believe that we have been working on perfecting this library for about three years now. We are preparing to send another transfer of funds to purchase a list of books that I will try to post as a document after this update. Kathy Yeo has spent the past two years putting together care packages for the library and having them sent with the Uganda interns each fall and so has played a crucial role with its success. We plan to continue to leave the account open for donations that will be used to purchase new books each year. This year's fundraiser item is in the process of being brought together. A selection of 10 artists from Kwekitui Primary school had been selected and each produced a number of art pieces that are presently in somewhere in the mail system, on their way to Canada, along with their photos and biographies, which will be attached on the back of the greeting cards that will be assembled with their art. I will post another update when these cards become available!

We reached our goal for the second fundraising phase that ended November 2005. Our Third phase has now begun. We have placed a number of books in the new library, found a donated typewriter, purchased chairs and tables, so now we have realized how bare the library shelves still are. So the third phase is to continue fundraising for books and applying to local Tanzanian book donors. April 3, 2006 we will be part of a Swahili Culture night that will be hosted in the HNES building on the York University campus in Toronto, Ontario from 6pm to 9pm. Be there or be square! There'll be food, entertainment, and prizes!!

Fundraising has begun for the second phase of the library project. Saturday, April 23rd, 2005 a sale at the Roman Catholic Church in Comox was a success and fundraised nearly $1200 Canadian! Our goal is $4000 by the end of November.
