Title: Lyrical Literacy: A Community Raps Location: Categories: Culture Education Media
Status:
In Progress
Timeline:
January 1 10 to January 27 10
Description:
Literacy in Action, in conjunction with Family Literacy Day on January 27, has created a project in honour of reading called “Lyrical Literacy: A Community Raps”.\r\n\r\nABC Canada, the organizer of Family Literacy Day, has chosen the theme \"Singing for Literacy\" for 2010. Adhering to this theme, we are hosting a contest and asking people to submit raps/songs that they have composed on the subject of their favourite book or why they love reading.\r\n\r\nThere are two contest categories:\r\n\r\n1. Write a rap about a book you love or why you love reading. \r\nEmail to info@literacyinaction.info or mail to 257 Queen St. Sherbrooke, QC J1M 1K7\r\n\r\n2. Sing a passage from a favourite book or magazine or sing your own original rap.\r\nDial 1-866-415-2955 toll free to record your rap. Raps/songs cannot exceed 4 to 5 minutes. Any genre of music is fine with us. If you prefer, I will visit you to do the audio recording.\r\n\r\nThe important thing is that you highlight your love for reading. \r\nDO NOT FEAR- you will not have to perform in front of an audience. Selected audio recordings will be posted on Literacy in Action\'s website. \r\n\r\nThere will be prizes for best raps, including Jet7 cards from Centennial Theatre and gift certificates.\r\n \r\nDeadline for submissions is January 22.\r\nThank you! We appreciate your involvement.\r\n\r\nNancy Barnett, FLD Project Coordinator\r\nLiteracy in Action\r\n(819) 346-7009
