Description:
Peace x Peace initiative is a project brought about or initiated after the kenyan Election of 2007 that turned chaotic and which led to more that 1500 people loosing their lives. Truth may have been hidden from the whole world about the cause of the whole bloodshed, but as citizens of this country we know very well that all this came about because of tribal affiliations and mistrust among members of my beloved country.
The project is therefore a gateway to help reduce this hatred, help unite people and help make Kenya a lovable Nation and spread the love to the whole world.
Background:
A month after fierce election violence had rocked my country –Kenya, I witnessed with disbelief as eight members of the same family, slashed to death by a different tribal affiliates, were lowered to their final resting place in a single grave. Tears rolled down my chin as the procession took a centre stage, men women and children wailing to the loss of their beloved relatives, pain and disbelief filled not only my heart but the hearts of everybody in this compound as thousand had come to witness this sad send off ceremony curtaining the end of a once mighty and beautiful family. As the earth was returned back to its beholder, I asked myself a lot of questions, questions I could get no real answer to, but one thing lingered more in my mind, “why would a fellow human being commit such cruelty to a yet another being?” , It pained me so much to realize that, while those who had committed these sinful acts were happy celebrating over stolen victory, to others like the family of this poor old man who now stood here desolated , lonely and hungry, looking at the caskets of his family members being covered with the red barren earth below, life to him was better that over.
It is on this sorrowful day, as I took the poor old mans hands, later after the service was over, that I swore to do all that I have in might to help others no matter how painful the cost would be. That same week Peace X Peace Initiative was born.
Today, only three months latter, we have a full fledged office completely furnished with 2 telephone sets, a computer, office furniture and stationeries to help run the centre we initiated. We call it the distress centre, people visit this centre on daily basis and some call us with more overwhelming stories that at times makes even the volunteer to cry. We have a team of volunteering youths working in shifts to help the depressed and desperate, with whatever help that could make their lives a little better. The centre has changed the way people think of one another, and we are happy to have made an impact to a society that was slowly turning against one another.
Today , as I write this, I am happy that I have made a positive change on other peoples lives, I am happy that the centre I sacrificed to bring up is not helping people to achieve dreams and I am so happy that by reading through this, you are going to share the little information you have found in this context to help yet other people.
God bless you abundantly.
Objectives:
Our main objectives are to bring a sence of togetherness in the communities that live side by side, specific Objective being to initiate a programme that would eliminate the identification of individuals by tribal affiliation but by National status, lets all be called Kenyas and not Kikuyus or Luos, or Kamba's and so forth.
Milestones:
So far the project has bought three working computersm thour reconditioned but they work prety fine, two sets of telepnone sets connected to a cellular network and another to a land line. The centre can also support itself in trrms of payment of the instrastructures and maintanance costs.
Budget:
Our Budget sums up to a total of Kshs 700,000/= approximatelly,US Dollars 10,000
Needs:
We would wish to initiate an IGA to help generate a little income to sustain the project that is currently solely being funded by the volunteers and those that the centre has helped, otherwise most of the funds come from deep down the volunteers own pockets to whom we feel so attached to the project.
