Description:
TakingITLocal aims at reaching the rural people with the benefit of Information Technology and making them appreciate and understand IT for self development and community devt., Teach them the basics of computer and the internet with respect to their languages and identify and try to solve their basic problems by enabling them.
Background:
The background lies on the fact that the rural people became less privileged and less advantaged to issues, skills acquisation, learning and participation and also in the development of self and community.
We then think it will be a great idea to take IT local to the local people to become what they want to be and to see global! Acheiving social and economic development with ICTs.
Objectives:
To reach the rural people with ICT skills.
Take their cultures global,
Take the people global and also teach them basics of computer and the internet and its applications and to make them feel the world!
Milestones:
The project is very special in the sense that it will take care of the problems of the rural people and the rural people will not be comming to the cities for IT programmes, their local languages will be brought into light and teach them in their languages and their cultures and people will be projected globally. ICT skills for development will be focused and it will improve on their lives as a people and as a community.
The initiating team has conducted a pilot project on this project :TakingITLocal" and it was success made and discovered! The people were very happy and excited to see people visit them to teach them what they know not and identify their needs and take their voices global and were very enthusiatic to know more and have IT infrastructures in their communities to help their children, youths and women for the future. further information can be gotten: www.digitaldivide.net/community/TakingITLocal
Budget:
The budget for project TakingITLocal is less expensive but the needs of the people and communities are great! they want everything.
The project required: Computers, ICT materials for training, Softwares, Sustainable Development materials, Generators for places without electricity, Translators and Transportation.
Skilled and informed educators dedicated to duty and committed and determined to the development of rural people. Digital Camera for coverage of the cultures and people learning, Documentation and pictures of events and the needs are also needed in budget.
Needs:
Computers, Generator, IT materials and digital cameras and people that can help implement the project in their various locals. Coordinators and sponsors and supporters from around the world and also advisors in the field of rural development and ICT4D fields.
