Description:
Vincent, Kadane and Karina intend to make a difference in Trinidad by providing 20 youth with experiential workshops that will build their team skills, confidence, and self- and project management skills.\\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n\\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\nThe ‘Trinity Art’ team is volunteering with The Pursuit Art Gallery in collaboration with the Tallman Foundation and St. Martin de Porres church in Trinidad. The Pursuit Art Gallery will become a non-profit organisation within the next 6 to 18 months. As a non-profit, the organisation will continue to focus on mentoring youth in Calgary and in other communities. With a call to serving others, dedicated to using art as a tool to empower youth, and a passion for creating change, the team members are contributing their skills, their time, and finances to helping the youth in underserved communities.
Background:
Initiated by Vincent in 2008, the project in Gonzales, Trinidad, will affect the youth and their families in a community affected by gangs, fear, and violence, in a country affected by kidnappings and murders (198 murders as of 12 May 2009).
Objectives:
PROGRAM GOALS: \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n1. To teach marginalized youth how to participate in a team environment \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n2. To teach the youth photography on the theme of faith, love & hope \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n3. To enhance their creative skills through photo and video creations. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n4. To advocate for the youth by using the youths experiences, stories, and creativity. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n5. To build the skills of the youth to help them overcome barriers and speak for \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\nthemselves. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n6. Use the participants finals products to help others overcome similar situations \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n7. Spread awareness throughout Trinidad about the issues facing marginalized \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\nyouth. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n8. Create 10 short videos to put on youtube to show the life and culture of the youth \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\nin Trinidad. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n9. Increase commitment of youth. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n10. Organize a gallery showcase to display youth’s work. \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\n11. Organize a prayer walk in the community of Gonzales to spiritually strengthen the \\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\ncommunity.
