Description:
This is a 21-month pilot project intended to solve water shortages in 8 selected primary schools to reduce the burden of fetching water faced by school-going children during classes through rain water harvesting and storage in Siaya District, Kenya.
Background:
The 21 months pilot project will take place in selected rural primary schools in Siaya District, Western Kenya
Objectives:
To improve comprehensive early childhood education for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the target area by November 2009.\r\n To eliminate gender disparities in primary schools and achieve gender equality in education.\r\n To improve the level of sanitation in the identified primary schools before and after the project period.
Milestones:
Establishment of an after school program\r\n\r\nConstruction of two water tanks in two schools\r\n\r\nConstruction of 12 pit latrines in the village for vulnerable house holds
