Description:
This is a 21-month pilot project intended to solve water shortages in 8 selected primary schools to reduce the burden of fetching water faced by school-going children during classes through rain water harvesting and storage in Siaya District, Kenya.

Background:
The 21 months pilot project will take place in selected rural primary schools in Siaya District, Western Kenya

Objectives:
 To improve comprehensive early childhood education for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the target area by November 2009.\r\n To eliminate gender disparities in primary schools and achieve gender equality in education.\r\n To improve the level of sanitation in the identified primary schools before and after the project period.

Milestones:
Establishment of an after school program\r\n\r\nConstruction of two water tanks in two schools\r\n\r\nConstruction of 12 pit latrines in the village for vulnerable house holds
