Description:
Responding to the call of this year’s World Environment Day “Green Cities – Plan for Our Planet,” the "Hanoi and MDG7 - Environmental Sustainability" event embraced a strong spirit for the reverse of urban pollution by raising awareness among people. Taking place in the centre of Hanoi, the event was expected to attract as many environment-minded as possible.
There were three main activities:
1. Walking for Environment of 995-year Thang Long - Hanoi.
2. Cycling on an MDG7 Journey around Hanoi with Nguyen Van Dung (Trans-Viet Journey 2003 for the Millennium Development Goals)
3. Propagating urban environment protection around Sword Lake.
----------------------------------------------------------
The project “Hanoi and MDG7 - Environmental Sustainability” was specifically designed under the form of an awareness raising event. The project itself was not so big, however, the outcomes were encouraging and they have opened perspectives for an environmental revolution in Vietnam, with youth acting as the driving force.
***On-going is the second phase of the project - a photography & art course on Urban pollution issues.
A grand exhibition of pictures and art works made from recycled waste, and an Envi-Impressionism Fashion Show are to be held in early December 2005 in Hanoi.
Objectives:
- To draw attention and raise awareness of pressing urban environmental issues among people living in Hanoi.
- To educate volunteers and the general public on the rationale for, and importance of the MDG7 - Ensuring Environmental Sustainability.
GOAL 7: ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Target 9: - Country policies and programmes must adopt principles of sustainable development.
