Title: The Working Group on National & Community Service: The Role of Service Projects in Positive Youth Development
Location:
Global
Categories: Education
Status:
In Progress
Timeline:
September 5 07 to September 5 07
Description:
Youth Service America (YSA) convenes the youth service field to facilitate the exchange of information and learning among participants and organizations in the youth service and service-learning field. YSA’s primary convening vehicle is the Working Group on National and Community Service, which provides a cohesive voice for the youth service, service-learning, and civic engagement field. The Working Group brings together national and community organizations, schools and faith-based programs, policymakers, academics, and others in order to produce innovative knowledge tools and resources and to generate new strategies for making service, service-learning, and civic engagement the common expectation and common experience of all young people in America. The results of the Working Group are reported in the Youth Service Journal, Youth Service America's periodical.
Background:
The Working Group on National & Community Service is Youth Service America's mechanism to convene the youth service and service-learning field on important issues related to service, service-learning, and volunteerism. In the past, topics have included Foster Care Youth as Community Assets, Motivating Latino Youth to Take Leadership Roles, Youth Voice, and Engaging Younger Children in Service. These meetings usually involve 20 to 50 individuals. They are structured as panel discussions, small group conversations, or presentations. All have opportunities for Q & A and networking. The purpose of the Working Group is to create and share knowledge in the service and service-learning field.
