Dear Supporters,
Poverty. Isolation. Abuse.
These are truths in the lives of many socio-economically marginalized women living in the slums of India. The vast majority of these women are illiterate and uneducated. As a result, they are unaware of their rights and are often sexually and/or physically abused or exploited.
In an attempted to end the cycle of oppression, abuse, unemployment and illiteracy, WiN: Women Initiatives provides these women with dignified work, financial independence and education. The women are employed to create handmade greeting cards on 100% recycled paper. It takes approximately 2 hours to weave one fabric woven card. The WiN women are paid well for each card they create and feel a deep sense of pride that craft will be appreciated by Canadians.
100% of proceeds raised are used to expand the project- There is no profiteering!
HELP US REACH OUR FIRST GOAL
Currently, the WiN women work on the floor in a rented one-room make-shift office in the middle of a slum. Culturally, it is common to work on the floor; however, in the WiN women’s case, it is symbolic of the hand they have been dealt in life. Help us provide these women with a dignified and respectable work environment by committing to sell 20 WiN cards for $5/each or 15 packages of 5 cards for $20. The success of WiN: Women Initiatives is dependant on your support and DIRECTLY AFFECTS the lives of these women.
Each card tells a story- Help us RIGHT a happy ending.
Sincerely,
Anita da Costa
