SELECT YOUR COUNTRY!

We need to begin building a database of information regarding the status of different countries.

Select the country or conflict you wish to work on, and begin researching the culture, geography (both political and topographical), religious influences, historical data, current government and economic status. Be sure to include the usual country data (population, education, etc). Add any specific regional or national issues, such as AIDS, or other pressing concerns, that may create or influence the outcome of existing conflicts.

It is important the all sides of an issue are presented during this research. We must put aside our own biases, and try to view conflicts from all perspectives, if we are to be objective in our recommendations. Of course, personal experience and observation is a great asset, and should be included in your report, but indicated as such.

Be sure to credit and quote all sources. Knowledge is the first step towards the peace process, and we would like to be a source of information for those in need.

Please send me updates to post. Don't wait until you have completed your research. If you share a 'work in progress', you may find other members who may be able to assist you, and have access to additional information.

Good luck on your projects. Once we have established a strong base, we will begin a discussion of conflict resolution strategies.

INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH:
We have established, and are continuing to establish, direct contact with political leaders from around the world. We will operate behind the scenes, on a confidential level, through diplomatic channels on current issues.

At this time, it is important that members of WYO become very familiar with conflicts occurring in all parts of the world, and to view those conflicts from all angles; so that we are prepared, when called upon, to provide this 'second-track' diplomacy.

The best way for you to prepare is to begin study on a particular regional conflict. As you come across information, send it to me, and I will post it for others to view. Our strength is gained by people, from different parts of the world, with different perspectives, doing research and providing recommendations.

UPDATE: We are in contact with a web devevelopment company to construct our official website. The website will hopefully include national information, links, member emails, posting boards, etc.

The Sierra Leone project is now underway. You can find basic information about the state of Sierra Leone, and it's people, under the project documents. If anyone has more information, or finds something within the document that is outdated, then please contact me with the information, so that I can revise the document. The project goal, is to create an effective plan for ending the remaining conflict, bringing in international participation, and creating effective and long lasting peace to the people. We have mobilized our individual members and chapters to begin research through the internet, books, contacts, and other resources. Remember to research all sides of the conflict, to better prepare recommendations. If you need additional sources of information on the conflict, or have new information, please contact me at WorldYouthOrg@aol.com

We are at an exciting stage of our development. We are expanding our network internationally, and forming close bonds with world youth organizations and individuals. We are making connections with embassies and leaders from around the world. We are building WYO chapters that provide research and ideas from all perspectives, and will help us to form close bonds, both locally, and globally.
