Description:
The AACILDI Project is owned by YADDI.
What Is YADDI?
The YADDI is an abbreviation of the Youth Association for Dissemination of Development Information (YADDI), a non profit oriented youth-led association which operates, since January 2005, and registered in Butare Municipality, Province of Butare in the Republic of Rwanda, in south of Rwanda, 138 km from capital Kigali. The activities of the association are under different projects like AACILDI, etc.
Goals?
“The association goals are to bridge the development information gap in young people and network their efforts for a sustainable development; to develop the welfare of the youth by reducing the HIV/AIDS prevalence; to develop entrepreneurship skills for young people, to integrate the youth into the moral based development; and to promote and protect environment by taking Earth Charter principles (www.earthcharter.org) as guide.”
What About AACILDI ?
Keeping up with the rapid development of ICTs, people have to keep on learning. The part of the population, which lacks the learning skills or material resources risk falling on the wrong side of the information divide. A youth-led association thought of how young people will access facilities that will empower them in order to face the problems related to the rapid development of Information and Communication Technology & development information gap.
What Are We Fighting For?
Reduce the gap between the information haves and the information have-nots.
Research results show that more than 80% of people in the world have never heard of a dial tone, let alone surfed the Web and do not read newspapers, listen to radio and watch TV. On one hand, people are engrossed in browsing, reading newspapers, searching for information, communicating, trading online, watching TV and then developing etc, on another, hand there are persons who have never heard such terminologies, yet the two groups live in the same world, country, district, and locality. In this regard, YADDI targets to uplift the un-favored group in this trend and bridge this gap.
What Has YADDI Accomplished?
As the association, YADDI is still at the initial stage of its establishment, it is necessary that it gets the strong foundation that will facilitate its further operations. The seeking for official documents has been its preoccupation in order to legalize the institution and those documents have been got.
Currently, the Executive Committee is looking for donors who will support the execution of the AACILDI Project. YADDI has currently secured a number of various publications and can be consulted by interested people, and some organizations are promising to provide other publications related to the problems that the country is prone to and those in line with institutional objectives, especially Health (HIV/AIDS, Reproductive Health), Entrepreneurship skills development, ICT, culture of peace related journals, etc.
A number of projects are being developed, notably environment education, HIV/AIDS prevention projects, etc.
Consultations are underway to collaborate and create a network among the youth serving organizations in the Municipality of Butare. This will ensure success in every endeavor which can be invested in this potential property (youth) of the country, Rwanda, that constitutes 67% of the total population.
How Can You Get Involved?
The first involvement is to know what association wishes to do, does and give your contribution. The contribution may be either material (financial, equipment) or immaterial (ideas, advocate for its institutional strengthening, etc.). Last but not the least, another way of being involved is to get membership of YADDI; in this case the interested individual or organization should address his/her request to the Executive Secretariat of the YADDI.
