Description:
The YES Country Network in Bangladesh is a collaboration of youth organizations, NGOs, individuals and other groups working to prepare for the Global Youth Employment Summit and the Decade Campaign of Action that will follow.

Bangladesh (NFYOB).


members from different NGOs and youth organizations participated in the discussions. Youth Employment Summit 2002 is a decade campaign worldwide to empower youth and to create productive and sustainable livelihood for youths.

The participants were agreed that in this context, it is very important for Bangladeshi youth to discuss about the issues of poverty and employment, be aware of the global initiative for Youth Employment and join hands together for this good cause.

Mr. Dulal Biswas mentioned that unemployment is one of the major problems for the Bangladeshi youth. In Bangladesh, about one third of the total population is youth, everyday more and more youths are entering the employment market but the employment opportunities are limited.

Other discussants stated that in the rural village of Bangladesh, many families are poor, many youths are illiterate. They have no work to do to support their families, even they have no idea to start some business and have no money too.

They added that these part of the population should be trained in different formal and informal trades in a view to establish their own projects. So that they could be self employed.

A sub committee has been formed in the meeting to collate and compiled a case study on the youth employment situation in Bangladesh to present in the Youth Employment Summit in Egypt, September 2002.

Mr. Ataur Rahman Miton of Hunger Free World, Ms. Shahin Pervin of Dhakabashi organization, Mr. Sukur Salek of NFYOB, Ms. Anjuman Akhter of Women Ending Hunger, Mr. Hasan of Youth Ending Hunger, Ms. Shamima Rahman Sayla of Uddogi Handicrafts, Dr. Golam Farook of Rural Youth Council of Bangladesh, Mr. A. Sarkar Babu of YSDO, Ms. Tasmin Rana of Prochesta, Mr. Md. Golam Mustafa of Center for Strategic and Peace Studies were took part in the discussion.
A 7 members delegation headed by Mr. Dulal Biswas attended the launching of the Youth Employment Summit in Alexandria. The Minister for Youth and Sports of the Government of Bangladesh was also attended the Ministerial meeting in Alexandria.
A 22 members delegation of YES Bangladesh attended the Regional Summit in Hyderabad, India and 3 members attended the Mexico Summit.

Objectives:
To promote the goal of YES in Bangladesh and to bring together diverse partners to create solutions to the challenge of youth employment.

Needs:
Keeping expandins outreach on Youth Employment issues inBangladesh.
