The YES Country Network in Guyana is a collaboration of youth organizations, NGOs, private sector, government as represented by Ministry of Labour and other groups facilitated by Volunteer Youth Corps working to bring awareness to the issue of youth unemployment and to catalyse actions by all stakeholders towards reducing the high level of unemployment among young people in Guyana
Objectives:
To promote the goal of YES in Guyana and to bring together diverse partners to create solutions to the challenge of youth unemployment in Guyana.
The Objectives of the Coordinatiing Committe are :
-To develop a multi-sectoral committee
-To promote youth employment as a priority issue to be addressed in Guyana
-To disseminate information on youth employment issue
-To prepare a Guyanese delagation to attend Youth Employment Summit in Mexico, 2004
-To facilitate the development of an action plan to improve the employment opportunities for young people and to monitor the implementation of this plan when developed
Needs:
Among the needs of YESGY is: strengthening of the capacity of the netwrok to effectively match exsiting youth employment initiatives so that these initiatives can complement each other and in some cases sustain each other. Couple with this an immediate next step is to hold multi-stakeholder consultations so as to develop a national civil society plan of action to address the issue of youth unemployment.
