Description:
YES Malawi network is a collective grouping of various public and private stakeholders that are directly involved in policy formulation, decision making, implementation and evaluation of socio-economic development of Malawi. It aims at influencing positive youth participation towards youth employment.
Background:
The Malawi Network comes from the Alexandria Youth Employment Summit.
Objectives:
1. Create and support growth of youth freindly policies in terms of their participation in national development.
2. Campaign and implement strategies that will create employment opportunities for the young people.
3. Advocate for the change in education curriculum to include youth skills development from senior primary school level.
4. Establish the National Youth Employment fund to support creation of extra 200,000 formal and informal jobs to the young people during the ten year period.
Milestones:
YES in Malawi worked actively in the first phase. Most of its members initiated youth employment focus including installation of windmills for irrigation and various programmes. This has created visibility and recognition that addressing the issue of youth livelihoods can help to address the major challenges other people face.
Budget:
At least USD 100 000 is requied to fufil the first part of the national strategy
