About  About
Title: YES Country Network-Rwanda
Location:
Categories: Globalization

Status: In Progress
Timeline: January 1 00 to January 1 00

Description:
The YES Country Network in Rwanda is comprised of members of civil society, government, UN development agencies, trade unions, youth organizations, and private sector organizations. The Network has set up a Stakeholder's Consultative Board (SCB), a ten member multi-sector body, to steer the youth initiative. Rwanda's main trade union serves as the country network's lead agency in the Youth Employment Summit Campaign while the Network's key government partner is the Ministry of Labour.

Objectives:
TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF YOUNG PEOPLE LIVING IN ABJECT POVERTY BY AT LEAST 75% BY 2012

Specific Goals:
1. Promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity initially in all higher institutions of learning in the country
2. To make Rwanda on of the ten countries of the UN Youth Employment program administered by the ILO. thereby committing the government to give special attention to Youth Employment.
3. To develop local content that would allow youth of various education levels to gain access to valuable information that would enable them to realize their economic dreams.
4. To inform and engage major sectors and key players in the social and economic life of the country about the costs and benefits associated with the issue of youth employment.
5. To make Rwanda a world model in the Youth Employment campaign.

Strategies to Pursue these Goals:
1. to establish a youth information resource center that would carry out a survey to assess the local opportunities and information needs for various categories of youth in rural and urban areas, and to ensure effective utilization of the results by various stakeholders
2. To lobby the media and leaders to publicize the YES campaign and to develop a specific public relations plan for the entire project
3. To have top leadership endorse the campaign and set high goals (like creating one million jobs) and have the youth and key stakeholders believe that its achievable, then secure their commitment and engagement in action. The Country Action Plan for Youth Employment (CAPYE) should be premised with ambitions about a realizable goal.
4. Organize intra and inter-school competitions amongst school of higher learning in which participants compete to create business ideas and project proposals. Then create connections between the winners of these competitions and investors.
5. Engage the government and lobby leaders to be leaders in the UN Youth Employment Network's initiative regarding Youth Employment.
