Description:
Zongo refers to a highly deprived multi cultural community found in the peripheries of the main suburbs in Ghana and other West African countries. Zongo is underprivileged due to the socio economic problems; illiteracy, health pandemics and gross developmental issues eating their way across the communities.
under this proposals, we seek to promote the living standard of the Zongolese by providing better skills acquisition programme, promoting and assisting in education and raising their awareness on Health and related Issues.
Background:
It is understood that Zongolese, people originating from Zongo are conservative people who love to keep and preserve their old tradition and culture. The tradition was to keep up to their old social living in accordance with some sets of religious rules and principles that govern their lives both in and outside their communities.
That tradition led to the constraints and challenges of adopting changes in the mainstream societies as they were seen as materialism and worldly that defies the beliefs of many.
Zongo, was eventually left behind in attracting Development, Literacy (in secular) Education and Health Education programmes. The results of the above are so prevalent in 21st century’s Zongo Communities being considered as one of the most deprived communities in the West African Sub Regions.
Objectives:
To equip and sensitise the target audience (age 18-35) on moral values and ethics for them to be morally sound.
To equip and sensitise them about socialization and dynamism of the society.
To educate them about their general health related issues and the need to be educated or learn a trade.
To set up community development programmes for the benefit of community and the country at large and provide facilities for recreation, such as sports and other leisure time pursuits, fit.
To create an economic opportunity on their lives by impacting on them the principles of free enterprise, these includes:
1.Entrepreneurship
2.Financial management and Leadership skills
3.Success and Business skills
4.Education and vocational skills training
Milestones:
We intend to keep up to the good works for as long as we continue recieving funds to support the disadvantaged communities. however, there are several pilot project under this proposal and each project last for up to 12 months. Although we seek to establish two centres (during the first year) to focus on promoting EDUCATION and SKILLS ACQUISATION
Budget:
1. IT Training Programme, to train over 500 Zongo Youth within12 months. $12000
2. $14000 for the Salon and beauty therapy Programme, to train over 350 men and women within 12 months.
3. $8000 for the Sewing Training programme, to train 400 women between 12-15months.
These figures only cover training expenses that includes trainers' cost, travel expenses, rent and ratings. it excludes equipments' costs.
Needs:
We will set up the following;
1. Suitable skills training centres for career enhancement, personal development and job creation
2. Drop-in advice centres to cater the needs for
•Education; to promote education, provide counselling and consultancy on related issues.
•Health; to promote and improve upon the good and healthy lifestyles that is sleep-walking out of the communities and give advice on general health related issues
Equipments needed
1. 15 computers
2. 15 beauty therapy machines
3. 20 sewing machines
