Description:
We at Anwar Jannat Memorial Foundation (Lahore) www.ajmfoundation.com Pakistan have singularly focussed on youth and have launched an innovative project, “Youth and Millennium Development Campaign – from marginalisation to mobilisation” wherein we aspire to make Pakistani youth active and vibrant, educated and enlightened members of global community. This project comprises of Millennium Development Youth Forum, Youth Leadership Initiative, Global Citizenship Programme, Active Citizenship & Volunteerism, and Research and Publication as its major components. The Millennium Development Youth Forum aims at mobilising young people and their energy to achieve MDGs and sensitise college/ university students about their responsibilities towards their local communities and global society as a whole. Similarly, Youth Leadership Initiative focuses on inculcating self confidence and positive thinking in youth and harnessing raw human capital through short leadership courses and related activities. On the other hand, through Global Citizenship Programme we are committed to help young people learn and internalise values of tolerance, co operation, and harmony and thus, enabling them to integrate themselves in the global society. We will also conduct on campus capacity building programmes through workshops and short on/ off campus intensive courses and motivational lectures

Background:
The winds of globalization are blowing across the continents. Borders and boundaries of the yester years are becoming meaningless as world is gradually squeezing into a ball. We are fast heading to a global world where destinies of all of us are knitted together. Thus, efforts are underway to ensure a peaceful and promising future for each and every member of this global community in the making. To translate this noble vision into a living reality world leaders met at the platform of the United Nations in year 2000 and committed themselves to a historic document called Millennium Development Declaration. This declaration outlines those key areas where all out efforts are needed to make this world a place worth living for everyone by 2015.\r\n Although it is an uphill task but certainly achievable. We have to move forward without thinking of retreat as an option. Those who are left to fail will endanger the achievements of those who will manage to succeed. Failure of any individual or nation will have repercussions for all others. It is thus expedient to incorporate everyone’s voices and aspirations to make Millennium Development Campaign an enduring success story. In this regard Youth can play the most vital role. It is the youth who are the bedrock of any nation. Speaking in the global perspective nearly half of the total breathing humanity is constituted of young men and women. More than any other group youth of today will have a lasting impact on the world of tomorrow. Members of this group are full of energy, vision, and commitment. It is them to whom future belongs. They are the real stakeholders in any prospective policy. But at the same time it is them who stand marginalised. They have not been recognised as a distinct group. Therefore, we are convinced that Millennium Development Campaign can not succeed without taking youth on board. We will have to reach out to them and sensitise them about MDGs. Time has come to harness their potentials and chanelise their spirit of volunteerism and activism so that they can become moderate and tolerant members of globalised society with their hearts and minds open and receptive to the values of the ultimate universal culture.\r\n Pakistan is geographically placed in the region which is known for its higher population density. The biggest chunk of its population is bracketed with in the range of 10 – 25 years. Majority of this age group is hit badly by the incidence of poverty in all its forms. It narrates the fact that many of them are illiterate. Those who have made to school and university level are unaware of the impacts of Millennium Developments Goals on their lives. This demands a change both at national and global level.

Objectives:
1. To make young people aware of human rights and the common human values; \r\n2. To support participation and cooperation in the field of youth work and to foster intercultural dialogue and inter-regional cooperation with the outside world.\r\n3. To strengthen social cohesion and solidarity especially of young people and to make young people, youth workers and youth leaders aware of the social dimension and its values in their home country and abroad\r\n4. To promote equal opportunities for all, especially for those at risk of exclusion by providing exchange of knowledge and practice and by supporting the development of a sense of solidarity. \r\n5. To train youth workers and youth leaders as well as other stakeholders in the youth field, and to develop and consolidate innovative training approaches in this context, and to sustain and widen existing networks of youth workers and youth leaders. \r\n6. To contribute to the recognition of non-formal learning and to foster visibility of youth work with a view to further increase youth work’s positive impact on young people’s personal development, their involvement in society and increased employability. \r\n7. To provide a framework for co-operation relating to the better understanding and knowledge of youth by identifying and updating existing knowledge, by collecting relevant data and information and by organizing networks. \r\n8. To contribute to the further development of youth work and youth policy by promoting exchanges, dialogue and networks and to strengthen youth policy development at national and international level with the aim to foster evidence-based youth policies.\r\n9.
