Description:
Artists for Social Change is a charitable organization dedicated to changing the world, whether by drawing attention to societal ills & natural disasters or by spreading the love of art.
Background:
This is the premiere community-service based college art club. Be a part of it!
UMBC Faculty Advisor: Bonny J. Tighe
Current Officers:
President: Hasina Jamal
Vice-President: Eric Pfund
Treasurer: David Tatum
Secretary: Vivian Ekey
Objectives:
-We aim chiefly to draw attention to major global issues that are ignored through various media (including, but not limited to, painting, photography, flash/animations and ink).
-We also want to work for B-more youth (since we're so close) so we plan to discuss and showcase personal artwork in public galleries that depict the problems faced by Baltimorean youth, such as poverty, dropping-out, and drug abuse.
-In addition to using our artwork to call for social change, we plan to physically get involved in creating the change. One way to combat the problems faced by youth is to encourage participation in the arts. We hope to instill a love and appreciation of art to inner-city youth. To do this, we will hold fundraisers to earn money for art supplies so that we can go to Baltimore on a regular basis to help youth create their own works of art through various media (mainly painting, drawing and photography).
Needs:
-A desire to get involved
-A love of art
