Description:
Restoring Coral reefs and fishing grounds along the coast of Kota Belud, Sabah and increasing the income of small traditional fishing families by having them to directly involved in tourism activity.

Background:
Kg Kuala Abai in Kota Belud had been in the State's tourism map for quite a long time. However, locals involvement in tourism activity is non-significant in the area. People are still using explosives and harmful chemicals to harvest marine resources to feed their family. Those methods have been proven to guarantee quick harvest, but very detrimental to the environment. If this practice still continues, it is possible all those resources will be depleted in a short while.

Objectives:
1. to eradicate poverty by giving traditional fishermen the opportunity to gain extra income from the blooming tourism industry in the state.
2. making sure there will be no more damages done to the reefs and surrounding fishing ground by stopping all destructive mehod of fishing.
3. Installing awareness among fishing community that the reefs are their livelihood and by destroying it means that they are also denying future living of their children.
4. Installing sense of ownership to the reefs and fishing ground so that the tourists would also be impressed by the beauty and nature and hopefully generate more income for the future by returning and spreading words about the village.
5. Turning the village into a popular spot for travelers with keen interest in nature conservation and coral reefs.

Budget:
USD25,000

Needs:
1. A sales office in Kota Kinabalu (USD200/month)
2. Set of office appliances (USD150)
3. PC/laptop computer with internet connection (+- USD500)
4. A tourist booth in Kuala Abai village (USD750)
5. A website
6. One officer to work in Kota Kinabalu office. (USD200/month)
7. A mini van (USD20,000)
8. English speaking volunteers (drivers, guides) USD100/month for food.
