Description:
Build for Peace in Mindanao Project is a partnership between European Commission and Habitat for Humanity-Philippines to break the cycle of poverty and reintegrate internally displaced people to ensure community stability and their attainment of their full human potentials in a climate of peace.
Background:
Build for Peace in Mindanao Project utilizes the housing component as an entry point for Peacebuilding.Through the "Save and Build" scheme and "Building in Stages" approach of Habitat for Humanity-Philippines, the project aims to build at least 1,100 houses in various Peace and Development Communities (PDC's) in Region XII.
Objectives:
1. Strengthen existing structure for Peace and Development, and institutionalize partnerships up to the provincial level.
2. Reduce poverty housing.
3.Increase education and livelihood support.
4.Increase access to water, environmental sanitaton facilities and services.
Milestones:
Habitat-PMT and its partners in livelihood support trained a total of 196 out-of-school youth in masonry, carpentry, electrical and plumbing and construction.
30% is already employed in various construction sites of Habitat-Phils all over the country. The rest are waiting for deployment.
The OSYs came from conflict-affected communities where Habitat-PMT implements the Build for Peace in Mindanao
Needs:
Habitat for Humanity-Project Management Team will partner with any entity, group or faction with a stake in the selected communities who is committed to peace in the region.
The PMT seeks partners in areas related to:
1.housing construction
2.provision of basic social services
3.livelihood support
4.sustainable community enterprise
5.promotion of culture of peace
