Project category.\r\n1. Youth employment; The rate of youth unemployment in the village-Bulenga is estimated at approximately 70%.This high unemployment margin has been attributed to the high rate of school dropouts which is due to acouple of factors like the low incomes by parents hence failing to facilitate their children’s education,the poor education inflastructural development in the village which gives chance to the few privileged to attain high school and drug abuse by youth among other factors.Basing on these factors therefore,our focus was turned to creating aproject that could address and reduce the rate of unemployment in the youth populace.\r\n2. Poverty alleviation; The poor government policies especially on the social lives of the people on the grassroot have highly led to the rampant poverty in the whole country.Almost half of families in Bulenga village live up to one meal per day.Therefore,with the focus on activities like farming and vocational activities,BYDA can revert this trend and uplift the income levels of the youth in particular.\r\n Activities involved in.\r\n1. Carpentry; Bulenga youth development association chose to get into carpentry and joinery activities because we strongly saw that this is avery good example of avocational activity that can bring youth together.The project aims at teaching the youth the basic skills in making and designing modern furniture products such as chairs,tables,bebs and all other minor furniture products.Although we are illequiped,the project has managed to secure experienced personnel to handle this department.\r\n2. Animal husbandry; Bulenga youth development association is taking livestock farming as apriority.For the fact that this is an activity which can accommodate almost every one,we took it special and differently.With this category,we have constructed anumber of housings that can accommodate afavourable number of animals.Further more,we’ve gone ahead to use space from members’ homes to construct animal housing facilities especially when it comes to poultry.\r\n3. Metal fabrication/works; Bulenga youth development association has taken aleading role in teaching the members the basic metal work practices.Though the workshop is not equipped with all the metal workshop equipments,the project managed to purchase the basics like the welding machine thus running the available activities.
Background:
Background.\r\n BULENGA-The village that hosts the project,Bulenga Youth Development Association is found in Wakiso district.Adistrict located in central Uganda just 10 km from the capital city-Kampala.\r\nThe village has got apopulation of approximately 15,000 people.About 40% of this population is the youth community for which the project is based on.\r\n Most of these youth have not got chance to attain formal education because of problems related to family backgrounds such as low incomes that render it unable to facilitate children education by parents.These youth therefore are sustained by petty and unprofessional jobs like; brick laying,\r\nSubsistence farming,animal husbandry,vocational work like carpentry and medium retail businesses among others.And those few who have been able to attain school access professional jobs from the city centre.\r\n With that background therefore,we saw it necessary for the creation of aproject that could address the challenges of the unprivileged youth so that they may acquire technical skills in metal fabrication,carpentry and animal husbandry.\r\nThis could help them relieve and atleast reduce the problem of unemployment and as well help equip them with skills for their self sustainability.
Objectives:
Aims and objectives.\r\n1. Bulenga Youth Development Association is highly aimed at empowering the youth who have got little or no chance of formal education with basic technical/vocational skills in carpentry,metal fabrication and farming.\r\nWe strongly believe that with youth attaining these skills,they can even startup their own small businesses hence uplifting their living standards. \r\n2. Bulenga Youth Development Association is also aimed at helping the acquire employment opportunities from the fields of our specialization.\r\nWe know that as soon as one is equipped with skills there is no way one can be afailure in life.One can atleast be employed some where or can employ him/herself.\r\n3. Bulenga Youth Development Association is further based on empowering the youth with the basic managerial skills.It is very useful for the youth to understand how to handle and manage their own businesses in case they happen to startup their own personal businesses.\r\n4. Bulenga Youth Development Association also puts HIV/AIDS as priorities.Basing on the fact that the AIDS scouge is very much on arise especially in our developing world,it becomes our concern to help aim at equipping youth with HIV/AIDS sensitization on preventive measures.\r\n5. Bulenga Youth Development Association is very much aimed at empowering youth with the basic information communication technology(ICT)skills.This is really very important for the fact that with the growth of the ICT world,It is favourable for youth to be equipped with basic computer knowledge thus competing with other youth from the outside world.
Milestones:
Bulenga youth development association hopes to reach out to anumber progressive and developmental heights that will be for the uplifting of the project members and the community’s livelihood at large.The project projects to do the following in the future among others;\r\n1. Bulenga youth development association looks forward to acquisition of aparmanent premises on which to locate all the project’s activities.This will be in form of awell constructed workshop building equipped with all the necessary workshop equipments and awell equipped project office situated there.\r\n2. Bulenga Youth Development Association plans to embark on amassive youth recruitment and registration of more youth especially those from the unprevilaged families.This is based on the project’s objective of reducing the rate of unemployment and poverty alleviation grounds.\r\n3. Bulenga Youth Development Association also hopes to embark on HIV/AIDS sensitization progammes for the members.Basing on the fact that the AIDS scouge is at arise especially in the youth communities,the project takes it as afirst priority to plan in the future to acknowledge the youth on this problem not only to the members but all the youth in the communities in form of sensitization seminars and all the possible means.\r\n4. Bulenga Youth Development Association further proposes the introduction of information communication technology(ICT) programmes to the members.Considering the fact that computer literacy rules the whole world in this century,the project takes it strongly serious that it will be of great benefit for the members to understand the basic knowledge with the use of computers.\r\n5. Bulenga Youth Development Association strongly proposes to startup avocational school/facility in future.A vocational/technical school is the basic facility that can bring youth together for ageneral cause,and with it’s startup,avery big number of youth can highly benefit from the opportunity as long as fees are subsidized.\r\n6. Bulenga Youth Development Association proposes on embarking on the acquisition of affiliations from established organizations and bodies especially from the western world.In return for this the project can easily expand due to the exposure and can as well acquire volunteers who in return can help expose to the members the modern vocational skills.

Needs:
The project problems/needs.\r\nBulenga Youth Development Association,being agrassroot project is troubled with quite anumber of problems/hardships for the smooth running and improvement of service delivery to the members and the community as awhole.\r\nThey include the following among others;\r\n1. Low/inadquate funds: The project first and foremost has aproblem of inadquate funds to run the association activities.These include among others funds to purchase modern workshop tools for the carpentry and metal workshops,equipments such as welding machines,drilling machines and grinders for the metal workshop.More smooth plains,axles,clumps,saws and blaces among other carpentry equipments.\r\nThe problem also hinders the purchase of safety equipments like gloves,overalls and first aid kits for the members.\r\n2. Unequipped trainers: Bulenga Youth Development Association is also faced with aproblem of low equipped and insufficient trainers who can teach the youth the modern technical skills in all the relevant fields of the project’s specialization.\r\n3. High premise rental costs: Bulenga Youth Development Association also has aproblem of the inability to possess project own land on which to establish all our project activities.The problem of spending too much on the monthly rental fees costs the project alot of money that could be used on other project expansion activities.\r\n4. Lack of exposure and affiliations: Due to the fact that Bulenga Youth Development Association is on the grassroot level,the project has not got chance to exposed to the bigger organizations from which the youth can get to learn modern ideas.
