Description:
Children Shade Sierra Leone is a non-profitable, non-governmental community base project working for children, youth and women groups to be incorporation into rural development programmes for sustainable development. CCSL was set up for youth due to the past ten years war that devastated the country. Great number of people life conditions deteriorated especially children.
Background:
The long period of the war in the country has result in high drop-out rates, and more living social risks. The living standards of the rural people are living at one day’s meal.
Also, most of these communities lack proper medical facilities and poor health and sanitation. Many of these children are suffering from many diseases and there is high mortality rate and children are dying during early ag e of birth.
In the area of education in these rural communities, efforts are being made by rural communities all around to establish and to run schools with or without government support. The schools in this area are housed on unsuitable structure and environment and they lack proper sitting accommodation and absence of educational materials.
The children’s families in these rural communities deprived their children to send them to school, because of poverty, domestic work and early marriage. There is high level of street kids, orphans, disables, ex-child combatants, child workers, drop-outs, commercial sex-workers, teenage pregnancies, single mothers, illiterates, sex-slaves, forced-marriages, domestic violence, sexual abuse etc.
Objectives:
a. To help rural communities achieve self sufficiency in food production and a high standard of nutrition
b. To provide and promote appropriate technical and vocational skills education and training.
c. To provide awareness sensitization activities about the need and value to send children to school to achieve and access quality education.
d. To provide food and school materials for needy children.
e. To establish orphanage, schools and medical centers for youth and needy children.
f. To integrate and train rural women groups in the main stream of rural development programmes to combat poverty, hunger and malnutrition.
Milestones:
This is a program for every child in need. Sierra Leone has been in civil war for over 10 years and now recovering. Establishing such programmes will help the children live up and be a good citizen
Budget:
CSSL need support for 50 girl children in the rural areas:
1. US $ 12,000 - Girls scholarship
2. USD $ 5,000 - Staff assistance
3. USD $ 5,600 - M & E, Communication
4. USD $ 6,000 - Medical assistance
5. USD $ 8,000 - Used clothings support
6. USD $ 12,000 - Food and drinks
Needs:
Used clothings, 2 vans for schooling service and official visits, bicycles, food items, household items, educational materials, computers, monthly child sponsorships.
