Description:
The New World Order based on globalization has brought with it the erosion of national barriers, unprecedented ease of mobility across borders, internationalization... and also some disturbing new "choices."

Choices which at times seem counter-intuitive and/or counter-cultural, especially for women - and which in a sense may not really be choices at all depending upon the political, social and economic circumstances at hand.

For example: the choice to participate in armed combat as a child or adolescent, or the choice to seek employment outside of one's home country even at the risk of becoming part of a human trafficking network.

What leads us to make life choices that can and do alienate us from ourselves? More importantly, once the die has been cast how do we then change, go forward, cope with stigma, reintegrate into our communities?

We will present a series of portraits, spanning four continents, in which individuals reflect back on their experiences:

* in Europe: Russian women drawn into the world of human trafficking;
* in Africa: former child soldiers in Liberia;
* in Asia: young combat participants in Afghanistan;
* in South America: young people in Colombia, guerrilla warfare and the drug trade.

Updates to this page will follow periodically, but in the meantime - comments and suggestions are always welcome.
