Title: Research Study into the looming class war in Kenya
Location: Global
Categories: Globalization

Status: In Planning
Timeline: June 1 08 to September 1 08

Description:
Proposed Research Study into the looming class war in Kenya.

Background:
Kenya is ranked high up among the list of countries with the widest chasm between the rich and the poor. This disparity was in part what aggravated the post-election violence where various sections of the population were venting out their bottled up frustrations, brought forward from colonial and post-colonial periods.

The historical injustices were a perfect melting pot for animosity between various ethnicities in Kenya. It is this past trauma that Dr. Mulindi, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, says has been passed on from generation to generation since independence 45 years ago.

The post election violence however only served to worsen the situation. As it stands now, Kenya has the second highest cost of living on the continent after that of Zimbabwe. Though the effects of the food shortage are being felt across the globe, Kenyans, unlike their counterparts in West Africa, are still biting their lips knowing that the post-polls violence is what has brought them these consequences.

Despite the violence dying out and a peace pact followed by a grand coalition government being witnessed, the root causes of the violence and the disparity have not been addressed. To add insult to injury, the internally displaced people were suddenly flung into the underclass, and their frustrations, it is feared will push them to the battlefront of the class war.

Objectives:

d) And are there similar structures and policies in the private sector?
2) To make recommendations to the Government of Kenya, the Civil Society, the Private Sector, the Donor Community and other stakeholders on the preventive or corrective measures that need to be taken to avert a worst case scenario.

Budget:
Kenya Shillings 3,505,700.00

In the primary research, the study will use interviews based on 15 Pre-coded questions that will be drafted by the lead consultant with input from the contributors. The survey will reach 2,500 respondents in Nairobi, Coast, Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Central & Eastern provinces. The respondents will be within the age bracket of 18-35 years old.
