Definition:
Social Media is the democratization of content and the understanding of the role people play in the process of not only reading and disseminating information, but also how they share and create content for others to participate. It is the shift from a broadcast mechanism to a many-to-many model, rooted in a conversational format between authors and people.
Examples of Social Media:
Facebook, MySpace, SecondLife, Wikipedia, YouTube, Blogs, Forums... etc...
My Take
If it wasn't for Social Media, I don't think I would still be involved with anything regarding computers. I mean seriously, without the ability for myself and others to give input on a product or service and see a quick response from the people providing it the economics of many industries that rely on the internet would not have expanded as quickly without the technologies involved with Social Media. What do you guys think?
