Hey everyone!

I had a pretty awesome meeting today with a friend of mine, Alex, who is the founder of an organization here called SAGA (Students Against Global Apathy) http://www.ualberta.ca/~saga/. We were talking about using various technologies including Web 2.0 for communication within and between organizations, as well as between orgnizations and those they're trying to reach. It really geared me up to dive right into planning the Change that Clicks workshops...and I'm hoping that someone(s) from SAGA will be able to help me out with various parts of it.

We were also talking about interactions between organizations in Edmonton. It was inspiring to me to be talking about organizations helping each other, supporting each other and collaborating together, and some ideas came up that I'll try to incorporate in any Web 2.0 for Social Change workshops i do in the new year.

Anyways, I guess I'm really focusing in on technology now with these two workshops, and with school and exams suddenly over I'm feeling energized and excited to get things done! Hope everyone's doing well and enjoying the holiday season.

Hi!
I've had a great week with TIG adventures. Yesterday I met with the MCIC (Manitoba Council for International Cooperation) to inform them about TIG and discuss a possible partnership.
They have heard about TIG but we not familar with our depth. Once I showed them the new Website, they were VERY impressed.
It is really great to get out there even just to let other people in the are know TIG is here. It seems as though so many people are out there working hard for the same cause and yet we are all rarely networked and informed about each other. This view made getting them on TIG and using TIG a lot more very successful.

Some of the things we are going to be helping each other with:
1) Including TIG pamphlets in MCIC teachers packs for their conferences
2) Possible involvement in Winnipeg conference
3) Advertising our resources aimed at teachers in their teacher e-newsletter
4) I will help them promote their web-based videos during International
Development Week.

It was amazing that once simple meet'n'greet meeting has turned into so much!

Happy Holidays!
Kerry

Hello everyone.

Hope all is well. So I did something which I think deserves to be blogged. I recently had a meeting with an NGO that is based out of Vancouver, but works in Eastern Chad, Sudan and the Central African Republic - mostly I believe working with refugees; a really good organization. Anyways, I told them I would create a profile page for their organization on TIG.

So I went on to our site and created a profile page and set it up. I was able to familiarize myself with that aspect as well as how to use the backdoor access we have, to search for the organization, fasttrack its approval and edit its content based on changes that were given to me. I know its nothing special, but its just neat to know how it all works and become more comfortable with the site and the appropriate technologies. I would encourage you all if you have yet to do so just to access the backdoor option we as TIG employees have and just wander around the site and see what cool things you can do - like approve new organizations profile pages.

Also, have been on the new site a little bit - its very well organized and more interactive. I like it better than the previous version.

Hey!

Working with CLC in Ottawa has been a great experience so far! I am gaining a lot of experience in preparing and facilitating workshops and I count myself lucky because it's something I really enjoy doing.

The biggest challenge I faced was simply learning to prepare and facilitate workshops on my own. I found that by alloting enough time to become well acquainted with the material I am presenting, it really isn't so intimidating. :)

I have dedicated a lot of time this month to workshop preparation and feel a lot more comfortable working independently. In the next while, I'll be working on preparing workshops on Youth & Democracy to present in high schools next semester. I look forward to engaging youth in an issue I am so passionate about!

Kudos to Nikki and Mai who have been great help in guiding me through my first months with CLC in Ottawa :)
