Hello everyone!
Just wanted to say Happy Human Rights day yesterday! Its pretty amazing that it was 60 years ago that the Universal Declaration on Human Rights was created. However, its also sad that sixty years have passed and we still have horrendous violations of rights globally. Hopefully, organizations along with the movement of other groups and individuals can somewhat help change this!
I don't know if you guys attended any events or did anything to mark the occasion, but I attended a panel on Human Trafikking, but only stayed for a little bit as I had another obligation. However, it was fascinating!
Anyways, take care everyone!
Tosh
Hi CLC Team,
In regards to achievements for the month of November,I distributed TIG and CLC promoting materials in high-schools (écoles secondaires), cegeps and universities. Moreover, I did a presentation to the UNEP Committee (UN Delegates) about Climate Change and promote TIG tools relating to climate change: Understanding issues (climate change), petitions, group and project pages that they can make to promote their environmental projects. As a result, I was able to raise awareness about TIG and CLC among various individuals and groups in Montreal (WIG #1)
In addition, I met with Sessi, ilyes and Justine for follow-up about the Francophone Strategy.
On the online level, I participated in the TIG Live Chat : New Media and Intercultural Dialogue.
And I created a TIG Event Page and helped moderate the CLC Live Chat about Fair Trade and Food Security (Souveraineté alimentaire) for Francophone TIG members. It was a success: more than 20 francophone participants and 3 interesting guest speakers (check my TIG blog).
For objectives for the month of December, I plan to contact PJ and Nicholas Nadeau to find an interesting organization which could be interested in giving us a space for our workshops in Montreal.
I also plan to meet with staff from my host organization and follow-up about our partnership with Canada World Youth in Quebec.
In regards to challenges, the main challenge is to find an avenue where I can run my Workshops whether it be on Climate Change or other topics like Social Networking for Social Change.
It's hard to believe that November has already come and gone! I continue to be amazed by all the cool formal and informal organizations and networks that exist in Halifax that Ive discovered'through talking to youth and other members of my community. I have been connecting with a lot of cool organizations and people, including someone who is in the process of creating a mental health section on TIG, which is really great. I was also able to do four workshops the last week of November on HIV/AIDS, climate change, and a general guide to action.
One thing I am struggling with is highlighting how super awesome cool TIG is into my presentations, especially when there is no internet access. So if anyone has any ideas they would be very much appreciated! Hope everyone has a great December!
CLCers;
I am SO excited! Right now me and my host organization are working hand in hand in organizing a HUGE project called Global Youth Service Day. We are organizing this project for all of New Brunswick, and it involves connecting youth provincially to create change in their communities, and to promote youth and show society how awesome we can be! I just finished contacting all of the local youth organizations (phewwff, it wasn't easy ahah!), and I also met with our Superintendant to get some school time off and to involve the schools. Next step is presenting at all of the highschools, trying to get each and every one involved! Then the government, for $$ ;) haha. Anyways, I'm really excited about it, so I just wanted to share all of my new news with you guys! Hope to hear from all of you soon!
I also did a presentation this month, as well as got some kids to do drawings related to climate change !
Meg <3 .
dear clc,
my name is saad, i like long walks on the beach. i also love to be inspired, involved, and informed. in the last month, i have been reading the TIG's guatemala website. it inspired me to do more research and write my term paper on the violence and resilience in Guatemala. i shall post some information from my paper and links to amnesty reports, pbs and bbc documentaries and great books i found.
next month (dec) i shall train a team of volunteers who will be organising and offering a HIV workshop during spring break. the challenge here is to make sure they are well-trained because i will not be in the country when they deliver the workshop.
the challenges i had this month were...my house had mold, so i had to find a new house, move all family...furniture...talking to lawyers ect ect. that pushed me behind my papers...and it happened a week before finals :(
i shall survive! whats going on with everyone else?
cheers!
