Hello everyone,

In regards to achievements for the month of November, I was able to run three workshops; 2 being the Web 2.0 - social networking for social change and 1 being on 'project development' based on the TIG GTA. In this respect, I was able to connect and encourage greater colloborations between youth/youth initiatives (WIG #3).

For objectives for the month of December, I would like to continue to raise awareness about TIG among various individuals and groups in BC (WIG #1). I am hoping through the different meetings I have been to thus far and the events I am hoping to go to in the future(Human Rights day), I can promote TIG, explain what we do and encourage more people to visit the site.

In regards to challenges, this month has been a little slower when it has come to meeting with different organizations to promote TIG - which was what October was mostly about. This is not to say that no meeting/networking occurred as I had a table at the Amnesty Film Fest as well, I promoted TIG at my workshops. Rather, this month's theme was more based on running workshops. However, I am hoping in the new year, I can discover new organizations that would be interested in TIG and setup meetings with them.

Hi Team! This month Lynne officially joined the Ottawa team so we spent time together looking at how we will work together over the year and what our goals are.
In terms of WIGS some of my key achievements were:
- Helping Lynne plan her Social Networking for Social Change workshop
- Planning my own social networking for social change workshop (in English)
Outside of the WIGS I focused on bolstering content for Ontario, adding events, keeping active on the online community that sort of thing. I also attended a "dialogue" on conflict that gave me some good ides on how to facilitate.
My key objectives for next month in terms of the WIGs are to:
- Engagement - build capacity of 10 organizations with my Social Networking for Social Change Workshop
- Action - get at least 3 of these orgs to build project pages and help them in using TIG tools to achieve their own objectives
My biggest challenge this month was in planning the live chat and in getting Ottawa organizations to not just hear what we offer but to make use of it. When working with some orgs they find a reluctance to go outside of things they hear on the news (Facebook, YouTube) so it is getting a comfort level with that.
I hope everyone had a good November and those of you writing exams good luck!

From November 21-23 we at Bringing Youth Towards Equality (B.Y.T.E.) held our 11th annual youth conference in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. Attracting more than 125 youth to our workshops as conference participants, we had sessions on areas including - sexual health, dance, world issues, drum making, sports, climate change, aboriginal games, substance wisdom. The climate change workshop was a particular hit drawing participants away from dance, sexual health and drum making even (wow). We recorded our experiences during these sessions, as part of our media streaming groups, using: audio, video, photo, comic strip, zine, and first nations art. We had First Nations hypnotist and motivational speaker, Trevor Kitokii, for Friday night and the Battle of the Bands on Saturday, together bringing in more than 500 other Whitehorse youth. This year we were supported by TYPS, who facilitated sessions for territorial community support workers from the Yukon, NWT and northern BC; we have received tons of feedback that this was an important step toward creating a support network for community recreation and support workers who are largely isolated in these areas.
Well done!

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone, their families and colleagues are well.

On Saturday, Nov 29th, the City of Vancouver held Day 2 of a conference for youth in the city called 'YouthPolitik.' Actually one of the guys who is working for the City and one of the organizers of the event, was in fact last years BC CLC Youth Engagement Coordinator. Anyways, he was able to get TIG into the conference and I was able to do a presentation about Project Development. I discussed with some of the youth the process of turning your ideas into actions. It was a very interesting presentation. I started off with the CBC Make Some Noise video on TIG (which Michael sent me the link from which you can download it. I have posted it on the documents section) and then moved on to the presentation (I have put 2 versions of the presentation on the documents section under the title 'From Idea to Action - Simple Steps to Change.' If you have problems opening any of these files, please let me know and we can hopefully try other ways of getting it to you). The content of the presentation was derived from the TIG Guide to Action (GTA). The GTA has a lot good information in it, but what was deemed pertinent was taken from it. But it was a unique experience and hopefully I can continue to do things with the city in the new year!

Take care,
Tosh

Hey team!

This is just a superquick post to share some info on a fun event happening in E-town. There is a march ending at the legislature building on December 7th for the climate change day of action. Alberta's tar sands have been compared to Mordor from Lord of the Rings...which for those of you who aren't as big of a lotr geek as I am is basically a dark barren land where there isn't any natural stuff (trees, grass, animals) anymore. The theme of this march is therefore lord of the rings. It's called March to Mordor: Climate Change Day of Action. They've got some fun posters going and they're generally creating a pretty good buzz. Just thought it was a fun thing to share!

Take care!
