Hey Everyone,
About 2 weeks ago I met with Gerald, a staff member of the Boys And Girls Club Winnipeg who is planning an Ecoaction program for youth over the summer. We had many ideas on how CLC could collaborate with Ecoaction. One direct way is to set up an Ecoaction profile page, and also a project page for the community garden and composting project they are planning for the youth participating. They are meeting once a week for an hour and a half, and so Gerald and I decided it would be best to do a module of Change That Clicks on May.27th.
We also would like to see if we could get the youth blogging on the progress of the garden, as they have just purchased a camera as well, and could post pictures throughout the program.
After that, we would like to follow up with an environmental module, focusing on learning about composting (and how to research it on the internet).
Our next webinar is also coming up. It is focusing on artist tools on the TIG webpage like Panorama and the Global Gallery. It will show how to navigate, and upload art, as well as explain that TIG has themes and contests.
I sent out my first West Coast Regional newsletter last month, but I haven't recieved it myself (and not sure if others did). May's newsletter will be out shortly.
I hope everyone has a good weekend and gets to spend Sunday with their mums.
Hello dear CLC Staff members,
April was a great month for the Quebec Team and the Francophone Team.
As the Montreal Youth Engagement Coordinator, I was very very busy this month, hopefully, I am now proud of what I've realized and done during the month of April.
I will start by the Al Gore's Training on Climate Change: Al Gore, The Peace Nobel Prize Laureate as well as the Former US Vice President, trained 275 canadians on Climate Change and on the canadian version of his famous movie An Inconvenient Truth.
I had the chance to be one of those trainees who were trained by many environmental leaders from April 4 to April 6.
For more information, visit my TIGBlog at: http://yassirovich.tigblog.org/post/354939 or at http://yassirovich.tigblog.org/post/358379
Moreover, I helped many new TIG members to get familiarized with the TIG website, I wrote new poems (Highly volunteering ! : http://www.takingitglobal.org/express/panorama/article.html?ContentID=19053 and Highly Green Movement: http://www.takingitglobal.org/express/panorama/article.html?ContentID=19095)
I was also very active on the TIG Website during the last month (3rd Most Active TIG Member), the idea is to inspire and encourage Francophone and Montreal's TIG Members to be active on the TIG platform as well.
Furthermore, I met with Kimia, Sessi and Ilyes three times to discuss about the progress of our francophone strategy, to identify the most interesting host organizations as well as the most interesting partnerships that can be done with CLC in the Quebec region.
Thanks to my participation to the Al Gore's Training, I realized a partnership with Écosphère, a great environmental organization - see: http://www.projetecosphere.org/- in Quebec.
By the way, in 2008, Group ECOSPHERE - a non-profit organization - will hold two editions of its environmental fair: in Ottawa, August 2nd, 3rd & 4th et in Brome, September 27th & 28th. Dedicated exclusively to ecology and the environment, these two events aspire to raise collective awareness by bringing together key players in the environmental world. I think that I will participate as a TIG and CLC presenter to these fairs in order to raise awareness on the issue of CLIMATE CHANGE and also to help young people get the tools to take positive action: I will do a workshop on Climate Change and I will present the resources of TIG related to Environment.
I learned that it is very very important for YECs to participate to some famous events in their region because they get to meet new people and new leaders, this helps to create amazing partnerships and things become easier than if you email the organizations in your region or call them !! Also, events are a great opportunity for YECs to promote TIG and CLC and to share best practices with other youth leaders and community development workers.
Last but not least, I went to the Dawson Community Center in Montreal (Verdun), it took me one hour and a half to be there, but the meeting was exciting and very enriching !! I met with three of their staff members: Lisa Olmstead, Rachel Levine-Katz (their Intervention Specialist who will be working directly with me) and Heidy Wager, Program Coordinator.
Actually, I introduced TakingITGlobal and CLC Canada to them, they were interested especially by the workshops and the Guides to Action, so we discussed about the workshops since I can facilitate them with participants from 12 to 17 (teeanagers), the workshops will last from 30 minutes to one hour, we established a minimum of 5 or 6 people to do a workshop and a maximum of 20 participants.
Cheers,
Yassir

Heyy!
I haven't written since February, oops :(
I was away for most of March, on a humanitarian trip to Jamaica through a group called Project Community Care at my school. It was such an amazing experience! In only 10 days we managed to build 2 houses, work at a boys' home (painting, set up basketball and soccer nets and a trampoline...), visited with seniors at an old age home, kids at an orphanage and at a girls' home and worked at a school!! :D :D :D
TIG went especially well in Timmins this month. We had our most successful turn out at our Earth Day event (Earth Day Extravaganza!) - which was a climate change workshop where we watched the 11th Hour.. it was a huge boost of encouragement to see over 20 people show up and get really involved in the conversations, sharing ideas etc :D
We learnt that offering free pizza was a great incentive to get youth to come out - and even though that was their initial incentive, all of them ended up getting into the workshop, learning alot and leaving much more inspired than when they arrived :)
I'm so excited for our open forum coming up - with the beautiful weather we've decided to do it outdoors at a park and the topic is freedom of expression! Everyone will bring something that expresses who they are ! We've called it "Let Freedom Ring!"
I also really enjoyed being a guest speaker for the Live Chat on Language Divide, thank you for asking me to do that! It was interesting!
Voilà - my blog x2!
Hope everyones doing well!
Peace,
Lynne
Hey everyone,
I hope you're all well!
I can't believe it is May!
It is so inspiring to hear about all the great work happening in Canada, all because of CLC.
This month the Atlantic team lost Jenny, who was an amazing resource for us in NS, but she is headed here to Newfoundland and then abroad in the fall! Good luck Jenny!
Our other exciting news was the launch of the newsletter. I've just finished the content for May and it should be in your mailboxes soon.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Cheers,
Karen
Hey, hey, hi everyone, Kenny from Whitehorse here.
I hope everyone is doing well, and enjoying and overcoming whatever is going on in your week`s.
April was an interesting month for me, as I was able to connect with a fellow I did a presentation with in the fall, and he shared about his recent adventure in Burma. Hearing people`s stories and opinion`s about events that involve or take place where they live or have been,...events that Westerner`s love to condone or criticize, such as the Olympics, are good to listen to so we can increase our knowledge about those and other current events. Eh? :)
At a recent workshop I took part in, a young girl, maybe 13, asked if we Canadians would boycot the Vancouver Olympics to raise awareness of injustices that happen in Canada? Injustices such as Colonization, or the fact that 19% of preschoolers live in families that are under the Low Income Cut-Off`s.
With this all in mind, I look forward to a Youth Voices workshop on Culture and Conflict in a few hours, as well as our chat tomorrow.
Bless and be Blessed. :)
