Salut chers membres de l'équipe de CLC,
For the very first time, I will post a blog describing what I did in the last month in both French and English, wow !! :) it is a sort of "cocktail" :)
For my offline engagement, I respected my goals:
- Meet Vanessa and Stephan from Alternatives (a follow-up about our partnership)
- Contact Canada World Youth and Communautique by email and by phone to plan meetings. Actually, I will have more facility to plan partnerships and realize them (at least I hope) because I participated to the Al Gore's Training on Climate Change, there were 270 participants including the Staff, so I had the opportunity to discuss with leaders of environmental groups and organizations in Montreal such as Écosphère, Le jour de la Terre, Mont-Mégantique (it is not an organization but an astronomy place for visit) and I met also the director of CTV, she is fantastic and she will give me the email of the Montreal Coordinator for CTV, I think reaching media to promote what I am doing in Montreal will help me a lot, ... promoting TIG and CLC gives us a lot of popularity, credibility and good reputation.
- Organise an open forum in my cegep: “Table ronde” in order to promote TIG and CLC Canada to youth in my school and in my community. Even if there weren't many participants, the Open Forum went very well (See photos; QUEBEC CLC Team), I know that the quality of "my" photos isn't perfect !
- Promote the open forum: posters everywhere in the cegep.
I forgot to say that I've been very active on the TIG Platform, a community that I am passionate about.
All the best,
Yassir
Sorry guys, wasn't able to upload the toolkit... it's too large of a file.. But I'm following up with the facilitator to try and get it on in the resources section of TIG!!
Hello team!
I've been focusing my CLC efforts this past month trying to catch up from the crazy schedule I made for myself throughout the winter!! Lesson learned here is to take the time to keep up the organizing and follow ups at the time, because it end up being a lot of work in the end.. haha.. I'm sure you've all been there at some point!!!
A lot of my time this month has been working with the practicum students, which has certainly been a learning experience. The good news is that we developed some fantastic resources with these students... Including our TAKE ACTION on MDG and healthy living workshops and also further presentations to support youth throughout their project development. I'll be uploading those to project page soon! But the unfortunate part was that not all of the students had an opportunity to do presentations. So my learning from that experience was that it would have helped to have the presentations scheduled!! It just wasn't possible this time, but a thought for next year..
Also, I attended a Youth Engagement workshop with Claudette Levy who has worked in the Halifax Regional Municipality on developing a Youth Engagement Tool Kit. I've shared the kit on our resources section... but there is much more that is available on the disc that was given out at the workshop... a great resource!!
Cheers!!
Over the past few months I think that I have really developed as a person and a leader through the experiences that I have had with TakingITGlobal.
The biggest thing that I have learned from my experience with CLC so far is that it is very important to get agreements in writing. These include agreements for space (venues) As well as agreements for co-hosting workshops or open forums. In the first case, if there is no written agreement, you may very well get dropped in favour of something more prestigious and you really haven’t got a leg left to stand on. In the latter case this is really important to ensuring that the ball doesn’t get dropped, that ideas do not turn into no action etc. It also lays out the terms and conditions so that both parties understand exactly what will be expected of them during the course of the partnership. There have been so many times this year where I have had a verbal agreement for a room, for a guest speaker, for a co-hosting of a workshop that have fallen through because I’ve been bumped, or the person was too busy. I think that a written agreement would go a long way to ensuring that we stick in their minds as a priority.
Hello everyone!
This month has been really fun, though trying at times. Schedules haven't been jiving well, so I've been mainly focused on my Change That Clicks group. I wrap up my first series this month on the 17th. Time flies! It's been so much fun, I'm really looking forward to my second series and having a bit of an older group. Something I've learned this past month is how to facilitate when the group you've been working with knows you. It's great to have the participants be confortable with you, but I found that they were likely to drip off topic, or start surfing the net during the session. I find that the group is responsive if I saw something to them in a respectful way; for example, "Ok everyone, we're getting off topic, back to ____." So far this has definately been a great experience!
Cheers!
