User: jaybaydala Description: UEnd is challenging all schools and students from Elementary through to High School to join the Give up a Gift Challenge. Students join their school “Team” in asking friends and family to give them a UEnd gift instead of another shiny-sparkly-thing-a-ma-jiggy this holiday season. 100% of those funds go directly to projects on the UEnd site and help end *extreme poverty.
1. Have a student from your school setup your school team on uend.org/dt/giveupagift. That student will be the team admin, so choose wisely. Name your school using the format "Cityname: Schoolname" (e.g. Calgary: Western Canada High).
2. After the school is live on the site, students can add their personal profiles and join their school team.
3. Then you just send your personal profile URL to everyone and ask them to buy you UEnd this holiday.
What do you win?
Bragging rights! You will be announced as the “World Changey-est School”! People will shout your school’s name from the rooftops, celebrating all the good you have done in our world! The Dalai Lama will want to have tea with you and ask your advice on how he can become a better person. We may even get your school a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize (ok, that part’s a lie). But you will be touted as the school that cares the most about changing this world of ours!
Seriously though, we are making arrangements to get your victory announced on local TV and have your chosen representatives interviewed – so don’t eat too much turkey over the holiday. And we will post a 3 minute video your school submits on our website homepage for the month of January. The topic: what message do you have for the world about how we can change things.s

User: jjarmasz Description: The Transformative Learning Centre at OISE (UofT), as part of Canada's World March Days, presents:
Rob Acheson speaking on the initiative for a Canadian Department for Peace.
Given the escalation of violent conflict, the increased threat of nuclear annihilation and lawlessness across our world today, there has never been greater urgency or a better window of opportunity to promote this tremendous initiative in Canada. Such a department would develop a coordinated and coherent paradigm for a sustainable peace across all government departments. The Minister would advance an agenda for a new architecture of peace by supporting and establishing activities that promote a culture of peace and assertive nonviolence in Canada and the world. User: rm4improvement Description: As a part of the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Room For Improvement Youth Development Inc. will be hosting a forum entitled "Promoting and Protecting Children's Rights".
The majority of the world has shown good faith and signed the Declaration on the Rights of the Child but there are still those who have not signed on, and worse there are those who have ratified the treaty but do not respect and/or uphold the rights of children. How do we ensure that the world's nations uphold their promises and ensure that children receive special care and assistance? How do we ensure that children, our future, have a voice? If we silence this voice, what will our future look like?
Come join us on November 20th to discuss these important questions and to share ideas on how we can create positive change.

User: CAPIinterns Description: The purpose of the conference on Chinese Uncertainties and Canadian Responses in Light of the Global Financial Crisis is to make a contribution to the debate in Canada on what our policy towards China should be. The recent visit of the Minister of International Trade to China, combined with the reopening of six consulates, suggests that the Canadian government is open to taking a new look at its China policy. In considering its options, the government should take into account the effect of the global financial crisis on Chinese realities, including the economy, internal stability, foreign interests, and policies adopted in light of these circumstances.
The conference will be held under the auspices of the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives and the Centre for Global Studies of the University of Victoria. It will take place on November 21 and 22, 2009 at the University. It will be attended by academics, officials, and other stakeholders, including those from private industry. While the conference will be closed to the public, the chair's summary and the papers presented will be placed on the web-sites of the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives and the Centre for Global Studies.
