WHAT ARE WE DOING ON OUR OWN?

I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED WHY MOST OF US IN WEST AFRICA AND OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES ALWAYS LOOK UP FOR WHAT OTHERS CAN DO FOR US.
I AM NOT SAYING THAT LOOKING UPTO PEOPLE IS WRONG, BUT I AM SOMEONE WHO THINK IT WISE TO START SOMETHING FOR OTHERS TO SEE BEFORE WE CAN ASK FOR HELP.
I HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR US ALL. WHAT ARE WE DOING INVIDUALLY TO ENSURE DEVELOPMENT OF THE YOUTHS IN WEST AFRICA AS AFRICANS?
EVERY YEAR, WE SEE A LARGE NUMBER OF US TRAVEL OVERSEA FOR A BETTER EDUCATION, HOW MANY OF US DO COME BACK HOME TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE GOTTEN OVERSEAS TO DEVELOPE OUR COMMUNITIES?
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE WE NEED TO LOOK INTO AS AFRICANS.

You have asked a great question but who are we going to blame the west african leaders or the west african youths in oversea ?
As for me I blame our leaders who have refused to utilise our resources effectively we don't need to travel abroad if our natural resources are managed and used wisely.
Take Nigeria for example : Is she not bless with natural resources and human resources ? Our leaders do not know the value of human beings so it is very difficult for some of them ( west african youths ) to back home and develop their countries.

The issues you have raised are pertinent ones, i will therefore like to make a contribution in that regard.
Let me say straight away that most people react to situations according to their backgrounds, while some see only the worst, other see oppurtunity and potential. So while some have done nothing other are moved to act.
over the years many have done their own bit, today in Lagos State, Nigeria young people are establishing and maintaining development projects in their own communities, contributing their own quota to development, and this with little or no donor support!!

I do fully agree with what you said, its all relative, we just have the tendancy to highlight the negative aspects of things, humans are like that. Reality does hold the fact that many of Africa's intellectuals prefer to stay in the north, but i am too young to compare but i am pretty certain Africa now holds much more of them now than 20 years ago. Now, i think people see Africa not just for as a poverty-stricken land but as one that holds so many opportunities, and now so much hope.
