The Computer Literacy project has ended for the the summer quarter and was an excellent start for the coming Computer Literacy Program to be offered by Literacy Volunteers of Rochester. Research was completed, the instructional manual was designed and begun, and a three-week pilot with two adult students was conducted with encouraging results. Working with the limited resources of a non-profit organization presents some challenges, but we are all very optimistic with the interest level, need, and results of this on-going project. If any of you readers have questions, please post them or send me a message!

May 12th -EXCELLENT NEWS
I was just informed today that the project proposal has been accepted and approved by the university. This means that this project WILL happen and will be in full swing in mid June. This is the beginning of many opportunities and finally real progress towards helping the community in a positive way. I'm very thrilled and I hope others will be willing to volunteer their time to this cause.

April 28th - Due to unknown and unforeseen cirumstances, a decision is still pending for this project proposal. However, regardless of the decision, I still plan to continue with the project in some capacity. With that said, any help from local and outside sources is greatly appreciated.

On April 7 @ 3:00pm, a meeting was held with the executive director and case coordinator of Literacy Volunteers of Rochester (LVR). The following points came up during discussion:

-A look will be taken at current computer literacy programs available.
-LVR is in need of a facility to house a small computer lab for future classes.
-Any sort of curriculum or software to be developed MUST be centered around the needs of the user.
-Some sort of assessment will be needed to determine user level and to gauge current interest in such a program.

More information regarding the initial phase of the project will become available as more meetings are help in the next month.
