Here is an update on the Canadian front with respect to the fundraising committee for the upcoming CSD12. Main targets for funding via Canadian supporters/donors will be generated through various stakeholders that should be involved in the CSD12 process..

These include:
(1) government [*(a) Department of Foreign Affairs Environment Division & (b)*Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) Sustainable Development and International Affairs Corporate Policy and Portfolio Coordination Branch.]
The Government of Canada applies the Brundtland definition of sustainable development: "Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". In so doing, NRCan helps to position Canada as a world leader in the sustainable development of the land, offshore and associated resources, and a producer of innovative resource-related products, technologies, services and research. NRCan enables innovation in these areas by providing the coordination, knowledge, expertise and leadership required to accelerate sustainable development - both at home and abroad. NRCan was the first federal department to enshrine sustainable development in its mandate and legislation, and was one of the first departments to have an environmental policy to guide its internal operations and procurement. As well, critical sustainable development documents, such as the National Forest Strategy and the Minerals and Metals Policy of the Government of Canada, pre-date the preparation of departmental sustainable development strategies. ]

(2) NGOs/CBOs [Rotary Canada/Steven Lewis Foundation/Oxfam Canada/YES Canada Country Network]

(3) Academic institutions [*The International Education and Development Division (IEDD) at Niagara College Canada]
Internationally, Niagara College has been very active through publicly and privately funded development projects in over 30 countries. Niagara College's success managing and coordinating the delivery of projects abroad exemplifies the College's enthusiasm and commitment to providing global opportunities for students, citizens and communities world-wide.

I will be presenting a proposal and presentation to the IEDD's Director and Rotary District Club of Welland and Simcoe, Ontario, Canada in the upcoming weeks in Niagara Falls Canada. In addition to this Clarisse Kehler Siebert, former CSD11 Canadian Youth Representatice and I will be working closely together on creating a proposal in collaboration with the Canadian Environmental Network (CEN) and other stakeholders involved to be presented to the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Environment Division.

I think that its vital that we have Canadian Youth Representatives at the UN in order to meet regularly to develop an agenda of common priorities and aim to raise awareness of on-going issues through a series of meetings with UN bodies and officials. Through our Canadian and/or all other nation state delegations, these Youth Representatives can and will attend a range of meetings, receptions and informal negotiations, as well as provide administrative assistance to their member state delegation, covering debates and formulating reports sent to their government.

Don't be afriad to take these small steps that will eventually lead to big changes once we all take the same strides in doing so! Any Canadians who are interested in assisting the on-going process please feel free to contact me. Feel free to view the CSD12 prepcomm working page.. http://projects.takingitglobal.org/csd12

Cheers for now,

Omar
