Thanks for the warm welcome, P.J.!

I thought I'd try and throw together some quick personal info while I have a few minutes. I grew up and went to university in Toronto. For the past year and a bit, I've been living in Calgary, working with the Pembina Institute doing all kinds of fun stuff. First, the nerdy part, ripped straight from the Pembina Institute's staff info page:

"Alex is a Technical and Policy Advisor with the Pembina Institute's Sustainable Communities Group. Before joining the Pembina Institute, Alex worked with the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association on renewable energy education and policy development, and helped facilitate the development of community-based wind and solar energy projects. Alex has also worked with a Toronto-based biogas development company. Alex holds a BA in Environmental Policy and Practice from the University of Toronto's Centre for Environment."

You know how I said that was the nerdy stuff? Well, the other stuff is pretty nerdy, too, but since P.J. has already admitted to being a climate nerd, I guess it's okay to revel in our geekiness.

In my spare time, I'm involved in a climate-related thing here in the Calgary area called Step It Up Alberta (feel free to check it out at www.stepitupalberta.ca), a group calling for climate leadership in Canada's oil sands province, with a focus on immediate action and now exploring the links between social justice and climate change in the Canadian context. I did a fair bit of university media stuff (newspaper, magazine, web) which has come in handy in getting our message out.

I'm an ultimate frisbee-playing, renewable energy and climate-policy perusing kind of guy, and I also snowboard, cycle (P.J. - looks like you're my ally in urban commuting!) and basically try to get outside a lot.

Here is a picture that I took of a grizzly bear to prove that I'm not lying, at least about the outdoors thing. Looking forward to meeting everyone soon (virtually and face to face) and getting something done at COP14 / CMP4!

Hi!

Welcome everyone!! Bienvenue à tous!

I thought I'd be the first to kick off the bios here. There are a lot of familiar faces amongst you, but many are new as well so it would be great for all of us to have to chance to get to know one another. (Of course, I know everything about all of you now! :) Mwah ha ha ha!)

So, I'm PJ. I'm 22. I live and work in Toronto, as I've always done, save for the three years that I spent across the pond as a Londoner getting my undergrad degree. I currently man the climate change programming at TakingITGlobal and serve on the Steering Committee of the CYCC, of which we are a member. I am occasionally the 'policy co-ordinator' as well...

I've been involved with the CYD biznaz for long while. I helped co-ordinate CYD-Nairobi in 2006 and have attended every major negotiating session since, in one CYCC/TIG-related capacity or another. So that's Bonn (SB26), Bali (COP13/CMP3) and Bonn (SB28).

I'm really excited to bring this experience to the CYD-Poznan team and help us make the biggest impact possible. Woo!

In addition to being a huge climate nerd, I am also an avid paddler, cyclist (mmm urban commuting), musician and alpine skier.

Who's next?
