Description:
CYRES is a platform for youths from different academic disciplines, cultural backgrounds, and different countries to interact, share ideas, and to identify and address the challenges of sustainability in their communities, regions, and globally by developing joint innovative initiatives and solutions to these challenges.

Background:
The motivation behind development of CYRES is to change the sustainability debate from being an exclusive preserve for sustainability experts and scientists. CYRES seeks to invite and encourage young people regardless of their academic backgrounds or disciplinary diversities to understand the concept of sustainable development, understand the local perspective of sustainable development challenges, and thus make a contribution in the sustainability debates both in their localities and at global levels. CYRES membership is open to all young people as well as scientists and sustainability expert who wish to come together to learn, understand, share knowledge, and re-define sustainable development in ways that relate to their practical challenges in the society. These practical challenges range from poverty, hunger, natural resourc management, and unsustainable agricultural practices to the more complex concepts like global warming and biodiversity. The focus of the forum is to further the need to locally integrate the international agenda on sustainable development while respecting and taking nto account local knowledge and cultures. In addition to this, CYRES seeks to address the need to facilitate participatory processes that will enhance innovation of sustainable solutions that are owned by communities and that stress on need for international sustainability agenda to complement local knowledge on sustainability rather than superimposing western ideologies as alternatives to local cultural ways of life. CYRES hopes to facilitate this cross-cultural dialogue to enhance a common understanding of how to localize the sustainable development debate.

Objectives:
The grand objectives of CYRES are three-fold:
1) To offer a platform for youths to learn and share ideas about international debates and trends on sustainable development.
2) To facilitate intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue between youths from different parts of the world on common and diverse sustainability challenges as experienced in their communities.
3) To establish an inter-cultural and cross-border discussion forum, network, information bank, and research findings sharing forum towards increasing & comprehensive youth participation in understanding and addressing sustainaibility challenges. This will involve, but not limited to, call for research papers, essays contests, and development of online-cum-print educational resources on sustainable development.
