Location:
Global
Categories: Culture Globalization
Status:
In Progress
Timeline:
May 1 09 to May 31 09
Description:
In the month of May we will be calling to action "dialoguing for change" in our local and global communities. In addition this online event will use intercultural dialogue on diversity to jump start further discussions on Child Labour in honour of the 10th anniversary of Convention 182 on Child Labour. Beyond dialoguing through words, participants in this call-to-action will have the opportunity to reflect on the Global Issue of Child Labour through art whether in the form of photos, drawings, sculptures, or painted group canvases---all participants are welcome to contribute digital copies of their art to our Global Gallery (www.tigweb.org/express/gallery) collection for this event!rnrnThis is event was made possible in partnership with the International Labour Organization.
Background:
Global Issues' Call-to-Actions are meant to encourage and support youth globally to think about social change in terms of how their own actions can be directed towards making a lasting impact in their communities and within communities around the globe!
Objectives:
1. To learn about the importance of intercultural dialogue. rnrn2. To learn about and discuss issues related to child labour. 3. To make unique forms of art to be featured around the world on TakingITGlobal's Global Gallery space.rnrn4. And most importantly...to have fun!!
Milestones:
May 1st to May 14th: Participants will have 2 weeks to meet with their friends, classmates, families, and community members locally to learn about and discuss the importance of engaging in intercultural dialogues in order to begin to discuss issues of global concern diversely and peacefully. rnrnAfter discussions locally, join the intercultural discussions online about dialoguing diversely while examining the issue of child labour from different cultural lenses. rnrnMay 1st to May 31st: Participants are encouraged to take a photograph, draw a picture, or even make a group canvas of their reflections following their on- and offline discussions. Once individuals or groups complete their artistic works, they can make digital copies of their art (i.e. using a digital camera or webcam) to submit online to the Global Gallery Collection specific to this event.rnrnJune 1st to June 12th: All submissions will be featured early in June on the TIG website and through various TIG and partner channels. The final presentation of the collection will also be a dual celebration in honour of World Day Against Child Labour, June 12th, 2009.
