The 3-day Bangladesh chapter of the World Cyber Games 2005 in Singapore failed to draw attraction of the enthusiasts on the opening day Friday at the Basundhara City Shopping Mall due to faulty arrangement.
The selection of the Bangladeshi gamers for participating the World Cyber Game (WCG) in Singapore has been conducting only by djuice of GrameenPhone among its subscribers under the name of Bangladesh Championship.
Sources said that monopoly on participation was taken by the GrameePhone by sponsoring the programme leaving other deprived of. Some 512 gamers who were primarily selected through highest sms (short massage service) senders among the
djuice subscribers were registered to participate in the Bangladesh Championship from Friday to Sunday. Earlier, a total of 1000 were supposed to be provided that chance.
Saiful Islam, a student of the Notre Dame College expressed his disappointment at the organizers and asked how the particular Grameen Phone djuice subscribers only were selecting the lucky gamers for the Bangladesh Championship.
People in general specially subscribers of other operators, who could not participate in the contest, claimed that the selection procedure for the international game like WCG should be kept open for all.
Tanvir Ahmed, Director of the organizing agency F1 said, "As the DJUICE is our sponsor, we have to make it limited to their subscribers to select the best two gamers through such procedure."
The participants are playing NFS Underground-2 and FIFA 2005 decided upon by the central committee of the World Cyber Games 2005. But they have been provided with pirated games, which are not allowed in the international arena.
Regarding the pirated games software, Tanvir Ahmed said that the software are being used with the consultation of the WCG authorities.
About 800 gamers from 70 countries are expected to participate in the world Cyber Game 2005 Grand Final.

As open source applications gaining popularity with governments worldwide.Open source will be especially appealing to developing countries such as Bangladesh, which see it as a way to help close the technological divide
that separates rich and poor nations. The economic logic of using software that's free is hard to resist, and more and more countries seem willing to take a chance on it. A Report about this Topic is done by one of our DSWA member QamruzZAMAN. This report have been published on the Daily Ittefaq (01-05-2004).
