Description:
The project’s purpose is to introduce project-based learning on environmental aspect of doing business to high school students to cope with the low environmental consciousness of Vietnamese students and entrepreneurs. We invite mentors to train students and accompany them to produce solution package to partner companies who, in turn, gain PR materials and free or inexpensive consulting service that combines students\\\' fresh new ideas and mentors\\\' expertise.
Background:
Purpose: Introduction of business-project-based learning on environmental aspect of doing business to high school students.
Mission: Contribution to the next generation of environmental conscious students and entrepreneurs.
Vision: Establishment of a chain of mini think-tank for students to work on proposals and concepts to reduce environmental impact of doing business.
Objectives:
Goal 1: Understand the community and expand networks
Goal 2: Find a place/headquarter
Goal 3: Prepare instructional materials/curriculum
Goal 4: Students on the job
Goal 5: Earning profit
Milestone 6: Reach break-even point
Goal 6: Recruit more students and make the project completely student-run
Milestones:
Goal 1: Understand the community and expand networks
-Students: Conduct survey to understand needs, level of environmental consciousness, related knowledge, motivation, lifestyle, 1-week schedule of high school students. Estimate the number of future applicants to participate in the project.
-Mentors: Go to conferences, meetings to widen the relationship network with scholars, teachers, experts, activists, journalists, businessmen who are committed to or have interest in environment/cost-effectiveness/energy-usage aspects. Conduct survey and interview to collect their insights and invite them to be mentors.
-Companies: Visit small and middle companies. Offer them free consulting services by invited mentors in early times but at the same time call for their donation. These first companies\\\' data serve as instructional materials for the first round of participating students. These companies should allow participating students to come observe the working place and match watch they learn from mentors with reality. Aside from consulting proposals made by mentors, students are encouraged to propose further improvements for the companies. This way, companies are provided two incentives: consulting and PR. Choosing companies that can become good instructional materials is vital.
Milestone 1: Choose 10 students from 200 applicants in one document round and one interview round; get 10 people from various professions to accept mentor invitation; get 3 companies to join the project.
Goal/Milestone 2: Find a place/headquarter
-For the first round of the project, space of at least 100 square meter to host 25 people plus 15 computers is needed. The space can be hired on 2nd and/or 3rd floor to save cost. Convenient assess for mentors and good quality internet connection are prioritized. Space inside a school maybe not preferred by most mentors. The spot should also be near students\\\' frequently used bus routes.
Goal/Milestone 3: Prepare instructional materials/curriculum
-Accompany mentors to observe partner companies and give concrete proposals. Problems are analyzed from many viewpoints but on the basis of environmental impact. Proposals are not limited to regulating emissions or energy efficiency as long as they allow companies to make better performances for less estimated environmental impact.
Goal 4: Students on the job
-Provide them 1 to 2 week(s) of training on basics of environmental impact of various sides of doing business - management, logistics, warehouse, eco-product, etc.
-Accompany students to observe working place of partner companies. Give them time to brainstorm, consult with mentors, make presentations, receive feedback, compare with mentors\\\' proposals, fix their proposals, make presentation again, present solutions in a package composed by both students and mentors to companies.
Milestone 4: Represent 3 complete package to 3 first partner companies.
Milestone 5: Represent 10 complete package to 10 more partner companies.
Goal 5: Earning profit
-Stop free consulting services and use the accumulated experience and portfolio to find customer companies. Provide inexpensive environmental consulting services and raise price according to performance and feedback.
Milestone 6: Reach break-even point
Goal 6: Recruit more students
-Shift mentors\\\' role to adviser. Experienced students scout their juniors, making it a student-teach-student project. Graduated high school students who do not pursue higher education abroad are retained so as the number of mentors/advisers is adjusted accordingly.
