Description:
Faiths Act is a global movement initiated by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation bringing young people of different faiths together across 75 countries to fight against disease and poverty. In Birmingham we've been organising simple, informal multi-faith activities to raise funds and awareness against malaria. By working together on a shared cause we are helping to build trust, understanding and respect between the world's religions.

Background:
The Faiths Act Birmingham Campaign was started by Sean and Pritpal who were part of the first Faiths Act Fellowship. Organised by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and the Chicago-based Interfaith Youth Core, this pioneering young interfaith leadership programme which paired 30 young Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Sikhs and Humanists, was designed to show that when people of different religions work together towards the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) they can have a crucial role in reducing conflict and saving lives. Through their multi-faith community fundraising initiatives the Faiths Act Fellows have raised nearly £100,000 - which Tony Blair has personally matched bringing the total funds to nearly £200,000. All of the money will go to leading charities in the fight against malaria including Malaria No More UK. During their fellowship these young people have had a huge impact in their local communities; reaching over 40,000 people and inspiring over 10,000 to act.

Highlights of their time include winning a 'Highly Recommended' award in the category of 'Living in Faith' for the Pride in Handsworth Awards. This award recognises the great work that they have both being doing in the area to get the different faith groups working together such as the Vaisakhi Mela community event in Handsworth Park, where the local people were encouraged to “End it like Beckham” and give malaria the red card; raising £800 for Malaria No More UK.

The Faiths Act campaign will now be carried on by committed volunteers in 75 countries across the world, with 12 teams in the UK, USA and Canada at the forefront of this initiative. Faiths Act Birmingham will be one of the teams leading the way and we hope you will join us to build on the great work already started.

Objectives:
We aim to bring people of faith together to fight against disease and poverty with a particular focus on malaria and through this build bridges of understanding between different faiths.
