Description:
We first started discussing about the Beggar Mafia issue on UNICEF Voices Of Youth, after a prominent news channel in India, CNN-IBN exposed the Beggar Mafia and the doctors involved in this whole scam.As our discussions progressed, we decided to take action and play our part in saving children from the clutches of the Beggar Mafia. After many discussions and considerations we decided to issue a petition to urge the Government of India to take strict action against the Beggar Mafia.As the campaign against the Beggar Mafia goes ahead, therefore our petition is ready and is available online.
We urge everyone to sign the petition urging the Government of India to take urgent action against the cruel Beggar Mafia and save innocent children from being maimed and sucked into the abyss of begging.

Background:
The Beggar Mafia exists and it tortures and maims people to make them beg.A majority of beggars are children.Most of the children are bought or kidnapped as babies by the mafia.These babies are then not fed for days altogether so that they keep on crying uncontrollably all day and the people passing by should have some sympathy for them and then give alms to another beggar who's holding the baby.Also,when the infant is not fed properly,then he/she suffers from chronic nutritional deficiencies like Marasmus - due to which they have deformed bodies and stunted growth.The poor kids are also kept all day in the scorching sun so that their tender skin develops hyperpigmentation.
The logic of the Mafia behind all this is that the more a person is tortured or tormented,the more disdain and unfortunate he looks - all this will invoke more sympathy amongst the people who will then give them alms and the alms too will be more for a person who's in the worst condition.
The children,who should be going to school,are made to learn the "ways and nuances" of begging,such as - the kind of "dialogues and mannerisms" that would make everyone sympathise with you and give alms etc.The beggars don't even get any share of the alms they get.They have to report at the end of everyday and "deposit" their collected alms to the mafia of their "area".
The situation is really alarming and the number of beggars is increasing day by day with the extremely impoverished people giving away their babies to the Beggar Mafia in return for a few bucks per month and to get rid of the extra responsibility.
Therefore, we are issuing a petition as a part of our campaign
against the Beggar Mafia who are exploiting and abusing the children
in the most gruesome and inhumane way. We are highly concerned about
the current situation. We base this petition on the recent
investigation carried out by CNN-IBN news channel into this matter.

Objectives:
“ABHIVRIDH”, an Indian Youth Organization along with A2I , an online global youth organization have decided to launch an intensive and extensive Signature Campaign against “Beggar Mafia” and submit a memorandum petition to the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Government of India and the UNICEF on the occasion of the “International Human Rights Day” on the 10th of December.
In our petition, we urge the Government to take the following action:
1. Probe immediate enquiry to identify and prosecute the criminals and members of the Beggar Mafia network
2. Support the NGOs working for the welfare of the victims of the Beggar Mafia
3. Empower these NGOs by financial and any other required assistance to continue their valuable work
We need people's support in this noble venture.Every single person's participation brings us closer and closer to our objective.
Milestones:
It has been less than 3 days since we put up the petition online and it has already gathered 104 signatures within such a short span of time.
