When I mention POUTINE you might think of fries, gravy in cheessse. If you were Acadian like me however you would think of mashed/boiled patatoes, pork and sugar!!! I often had a hard time convincing people that I grew up eating a different kind of "poutine".
I have yet to find a non-acadian that likes them but I will keep trying.....In the meantime me and my dad will eat them all.

Wikipedia does a pretty good job of defining the Acadian Poutine as:

"In New Brunswick, there is an earlier traditional Acadian dish known as poutine râpée, which is completely different from the "poutine québécoise". The Acadian poutine is a ball of grated and mashed potato, salted, filled with chicken or pork in the centre, and boiled. The result is a moist greyish dumpling about the size of a baseball. It is commonly eaten with salt and pepper or brown sugar. It is believed to have originated from the German Klöße, prepared by early German settlers who lived among the Acadians."

Hi Everyone!

Here's an event that may be of interest to you. It's hosted by the Colour of Poverty Campaign based in Toronto:

"Given the critical political moment in which we now find ourselves in Ontario - with both a Federal budget under debate and a provincial budget very near on the horizon - we at the Colour of Poverty decided that the most meaningful way in which we could best honour and make meaningful the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2009 - was to organize a Community Forum to bring the spotlight to bare on the growing inequality in the province - a "colour-coded" inequity and disparity that is ever more characterized by ethno-racial inequality - an inequality of learning outcomes, of health status, of employment prospects, of life chances and of life outcomes generally !

Please join us in Toronto on the morning of Friday March 20 - DETAILS BELOW - to learn more about these troubling and accelerating trends - and for what we hope to be a productive dialogue as to how we can together work toward bringing about the needed change !!
