Location:
Categories: Human Rights
Culture

Status: In Progress
Timeline: Ongoing

Description:
This multilateral project between Ireland, Germany, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia aims to educate its participants on what are their Human Rights and how they are a vitally important topic in their lives. The exchange will place a lot of emphasis on relating an individuals Human Rights to daily situations and problems that the young people experience. The project will accomplish this through a series of workshops and educational discussions. The project will also look at the participants role as citizens within a new emerging Europe.

Approximately half of the total amount of participants in this exchange will be from a disadvantaged, low socio-economic and at risk background. Their will be a small number of participants from ethnic minorities which will include members of the travelling community, immigrants and gypsies.

The overall theme of this project is Human Rights education. This theme however is a very complex and interesting one and will involve all participants looking at, among other things;

- What are my Human Rights?

- Why do I have them?

- How can I use them?

- How can I defend my Human Rights? How are they defended in general?

- The gap between Human Rights on paper and in reality.

- The differences in the implementation of Human Rights - how are situations in the different countries?

The answers of these and many other questions as well as discussions between youth with different social, local and cultural background are going to look closely at Human Rights in every day life in so different countries.

Leaders

Russia (Natalia)
I'm a teacher of higher education (English and Psychology), also work as chief of the department of information and analysis at the Vladimir branch of Russian Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation.
I've never been involved in such projects before.
I like to work with young people and want my participants to play an active role in our youth exchange. The main outcome for me is that young people will get experience in the way of solving their everyday problems with the help of HR. I want them to get to know their own potential, enrich their outlook and meet new people.

Germany (Marc)
The German leader is 21 years old. He is very encouraged to bring human rights to young people and to show the, that they are actual in every place in life. In Germany he made the biggest human rights Internet site for young people. Grown up in a Russian-German family he knows what it means to live an own culture. He is happy to live the German and the Russian culture the same time.
Marc says: “It would be great to see that our different participants learn more about human rights and general differences and similarities between their different cultures. We definitely have to encourage them to make some own activities as follow ups. I would be more then proud to help them to write their concept about their idea and could pass them international contacts where they can get more information or even cooperation. Being together for 10 days with 41 people from 6 different countries, will give us a new perspective on our European view of life.”

Ukraine (Katya)
I’ve been involved in the activities of the non-governmental organization “Debate Center” since it was established in 1996 in Simferopol (Crimea, Ukraine). Starting from the development of the Debate Program in Crimea (Ukraine) we’ve also took part in diverse international projects such as Empowering education, Health Education, Gender Education, Conflict Resolution, Critical Thinking, Street Law. Members of the organization initiated by themselves and implemented a number of projects aimed at developing HRE, gender equality, critical thinking through non-formal education.
In the frames of our activities I usually conduct or co-facilitate trainings which are aimed at developing of new social skills and abilities such as gender equality, active listening, critical thinking, successful communication and so on. I also facilitate workshops aimed at introducing of new methodology or project, developing fundraising skills or promote team building abilities.
In 2004 after I attained my first experience in the huge field of Youth Program of European Commission, I have become in charge of the international cooperation in the organization.
Finally, I’m hosting our great project and really exited to meet you in September. Hope, we all make use of the event, get positive experience and make a great number of friends not only for fun, but also for fruitful cooperation.

Ireland (John)
Hey! My name is John Coughlan and I am a teacher from Dublin in Ireland. I work with young unemployed early school leavers from disadvantaged areas of the city. Our organisation is a second chance school called Youth-reach and we try to empower our students to make more informed and better decisions about their future. We provide a holistic approach to education and deal with each student according to their needs (physical, mental & educational). We provide certification for our students so that they can progress to employment or further education.
I have being involved in International projects under the European Union’s YOUTH programme for two years now. The positive changes and personal development of the participating young people in these projects is my biggest motivation.
My hopes for this project are that my students, as well as all the participants, will learn to broaden their horizons, realise that they are not alone in the problems they have, become aware of the importance of Human Rights and the effect they have on their everyday lives as well as develop personally through this great intercultural experience.
