Description:
Project MADE is working to fundraise and develop a leadership curriculum for the building of a leadership school in Ghana. This T.I.G. group is a meeting place for all interested in participating in this exciting and historic youth-led initiative crossing international and continental borders. Discuss topics related to the 'MADE' project and respond to minutes from past meetings. Together our ideas can help contribute to building future world leaders in Ghana. -- Maybe even the next Kofi Annan.
The driving force behind the school is the notion that youth in the developing world deserve the same standard/facilities that youth in the developed world enjoy.
Ghana has experienced increased school enrollment rates in both primary and secondary schools but enrollment and achievement levels still remain very low in many regions of Ghana. In addition the primary literacy rate in Ghana is at a mere 10%. In building this school, we hope to bring attention to the importance of universal education and youth leadership training, and in addition, endorse initiatives that are youth-led.
Youth need to be given the opportunities to take on leadership roles in their communities and develop self-confidence, character, passion, awareness, vision, communication and interpersonal skills. As Stephen Lewis once said "Education is the solution to all the world's problems." It is only through promoting leadership skills that we will foster the development of youth who will help develop their communities, countries and the world itself.
Background:
Project MADE (Making a Difference Everyday) - hosted by the Students Commission of Canada, is a leadership development project that will focus on building facilitation and leadership skills. The group's focus is the building of a school of leadership in Ghana to facilitate the development of youth leaders. Working together with the Children and Youth in Broadcasting group in Ghana (also known as 'Curious Minds'), this group will be developing a leadership curriculum for the school as well.
