Cross-Canada Mapping of Youth-led Initiatives/
Cartographie des Initiatives menées par des jeunes du Canada
Phase Two:
Building Capacity & Assessing Needs of Canadian Youth-led or Highly Youth-engaged Groups/Organizations
TakingITGlobal’s second phase of this project is to run open forums throughout Canada with the organizations/ individuals identified in phase one. This process would go beyond a simple needs assessment and include capacity-building training, focusing on using the TakingITGlobal Canadian portal site. While the eventual goal of the project is to develop a portal that meets the needs of Canadian youth-led organizations, we intend to use the TakingITGlobal Canadian country site to empower these groups in the short term and develop a more complete network of organizations. The portal that will eventually result from this process is intended to be truly collaborative, bringing together the best possible tools to enhance the work of youth-led organizations. Researching best practices and working closely with the organizations we will be collaborating with in this initial research project will support the success of future projects.
What will the capacity-building workshops look like?
- Part 1- Introduction (PowerPoint)
- Part 2- Mini Focus groups discussions
- Part 3- Large group discussions
- Part 4- TIG presentation (PowerPoint)
- Approximately 15-25 participants
- Approximately 2 hours long, from the targeted hours of 6-8pm (weeknight)
Where will the capacity building workshops take place?
- Vancouver: January 5, 2005
- Edmonton: January 9, 2005
- Saskatoon: January 12, 2005
- Winnipeg: January 16, 2005
- Toronto: January 19, 2005
- Ottawa: January 23, 2005
- Montreal: January 26, 2005
- Quebec: January 30, 2005
- Saint John (NB): February 2, 2005
- Halifax: February 6, 2005
How?
1. Assessing Needs and Assets: The workshop will present a forum for open discussion to address the local needs and assets of these groups, facilitated by key questions, via mini focus groups. Larger discussion will address opinions and suggestions relating to national issues, identity and role of youth in Canada.
2. Capacity- Building: Post-discussion individuals and groups will be familiarized to the TakingITGlobal Canadian portal and introduced to the various tools that can develop and promote the communication/ networking/ collaboration possibilities of the groups.
-------------------------------------
Additional component of this phase will be in-depth interviews. These interviews will be one-on-one capacity building workshops specifically targeted to youth-led initiatives.
-------------------------------------
If you are interested in participating at any of the open forums please contact: mapping@TakingITGlobal.org
