This capacity training encourages youth from very low income families to engage entrepreneurial endeavors that can augment their daily subsistence and perhaps, save up money to avail of state universities higher education.
Background:
Markedchaser Youth Development Trust (MYDT) is a youth-led initiative which aims to be the center for excellence and development for youth leadership and empowerment with advocacies on environment, education and health. It provides comprehensive transformational leadership opportunities for young leaders in Region 02 for them to discover and develop their potentialities, passion and interest; and provide a support system to push forward their personal dedication to effect positive social change in their respective communities
Historically, the cultural norms for leadership in the country, specifically within the province, are basically traditional authoritarian which inhibits shared participation among the young people. Indeed, there is necessity to introduce change to this cultural norm to make leadership more relevant and responsive to the public.
To make this possible, capacity building is at the core of this trust. It introduces and suggests new models and approaches to leadership, specifically everyday transformational leadership. Through the model, it hopes to empower the youth to become relevant leaders, with right attitude, charisma, and perceptions. The trust shall serve as a breeding ground for them to refine their leadership potentials, develop new cultural norms, and access support system for them to further put to reality their vision and passion for social service.
This social enterprise will develop more leaders that will alter the manner and extent of youth participation and involvement in the society- more responsive, passionate and inspiring to the other youth and the society.
The relevance of this trust is highly called for since there is a lack of leadership support system within the countryside. Access to leadership development for the youth is only made available to the bigger cities, thus deprived with quality leadership development programs. With the availability of this program, more youth are able to refine their passion and skills and funnel it out to a more productive and effective programs and advocacies for the society.
With the trust, they are mentored with seasoned leaders who will guide them through their advocacies- provide support to project management, networking, financial challenges and others. It is with this hope that more young people will be able to get out of their comfort zones and find a refuge in a cohort of vibrant and passionate young leaders.
